It's not even really the spool sound - you'll hear that more through the intake. The wastegate dump is extra exhaust that is dumped once you hit your boost target. So, if you're set to run 12psi, everything above that from the exhaust is dumped out (either to atmosphere or back into your exhaust) to not overspin the turbo.

It's just muffled or unmuffled exhaust noise - more like a blaaat noise, not really a nice sound. Just loud.

And yes, the "psshhh" sound is from the BOV.

Can anybody give me a description of the difference in sound from the precision and garrett turbos? To be more specific the spooling sound. Does it sound like a jet? cow? chicken?

On a serious note that's the best part of a open wastegate. It will be awesome race car loud when it opens up but at normal driving you won't hear the difference. Unless you plan on ripping it everywhere you go with your gf in the car who doesn't like mad sounding cars then you'll be good to go.
idk if i'd call any 4cyl with open gate a dragon lol.

But ya open dump gets pretty annoying really fast. also attracts about 1000x more attention from piggy ears lol.

On an unrelated note: Do you need the 3 bar sensor if you plan to run under 300hp?

The "dragon" name is for a uel header open dump. the UEL exhuast pulses give it a bizarre sound that people sometimes say sounds animal like. Look up STI external wastegate dump videos.

I bet there's a lot of people that'd find my exhaust very annoying but I love it. As for those damn piggy ears, living in metro Detroit helps greatly as there are tons of screaming loud V8's around to drown out my exhuast

The GTX will have the jet-like spooling sound on spool-up and slight high pitched chatter on let off due to the anti-surge aka ported shroud compressor housing.

The GT and Precision won't have this sound due to having normal compressor housings, you might get some induction noise but you won't have the other sounds effects bar the normal BOV whoosh.

Good point, I personally detest that rattle-like scream that UEL Subarus have. Some non-UEL cars with twin scroll twin wastegate setups can also exhibit this sound.

There are several good videos that capture the open dump pretty well:
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFrv0K2w4Z4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFrv0K2w4Z4[/ame]

I really like it. When running with a stock muffler you get a very tame sound unless you go WOT, then it sounds glorious!

Gawd :0 I dont think I would like that sound. Yea it's loud but I'd rather not have that sound take over instead of the spool noise.

I'm well aware, I've put together a few STI's lol

but currently have turbo 350z, waste gate points straight at the street..........i call her the screaming banshee, as it can be heard from well over 1/4-1/2 mile away

But the recirc UEL kit sounds perfect

Yesterday I was in a brz with the base kit..it's not bad. You can hear the pigeon sound when shifting that's basically it a little bov noise too. he had the wastegate dump which isn't that bad in person .. like from the outside sounds like a race car flying by ..inside is different I'm getting this kit and happy what I experienced. It pulls really good when boost comes in ..getting shipped next week finally.
