Well as said everybody has their own definition of what is "rice" but tail lights are not pretending to be something it isn't so I don't think they are rice at all.

RICE to me is any car I find, at the given moment of the label being placed, doesn't match the level of which I've elevated my existence to in order to be better than someone else. This echelon I transcend to may be temporary, but for those moments I am certainly in all ways superior to the human being who owns the vehicle of which I have given label to.

At times, I have been known to follow suit and perform similar modifications to the chassis of my vehicle. Larger wheels with a different than stock diameter, or perhaps a vinyl image with text that reads a brand I find significant enough to promote. I've even been known to replace my vehicle's factory emissions reducing catalytic converter, which in effect caused my vehicle to assert itself more proudly into the immediate vicinity.

The basis for my modifications however, was not to obtain (1) or more female reproductive organs, nor for other gratification presumably given by the onlookers of my vehicle; my modifications were because I and I alone enjoyed these changes and chose to share my intrepid opinion loudly. To anyone who had dared challenge my opinion, I then challenged them to a dash between 2 points on a length of pavement. This challenge only issued of course, were I certain I shall'nt be defeated by their own interpretation of insight, choice of vehicle, and control over this collection of stigma/noise they've chosen to represent themselves with.

All right, time for work. Just got over being sick for 4 days and needed a good laugh to myself. Enjoy word vomit Mr. Rogers style.

LOL how could valentis be rice?? Unless you think they are adding 5+hp or making you faster because they're sequential then all you are doing is making your car look better. Do it.

Rice=tasteless modifications to one's car with little to no performance benefit. Example: Fake stick-on vents and a Voltex wing for a daily-driven Honda Accord.

Expensive rice is especially amusing as you realize the owner isn't making a joke of an older or beat up car, they actually spend big bucks on their useless/tasteless modifications. Cars that look heavily track modified and are never tracked are rice to me. There was a shop years ago near my work that would often have a line of S2000's out front, all with huge wings/aero and I used to think most were for cosmetics. Probably not the case, but it shows how the uninitiated will view this kinda stuff, as I was 12 years ago.

I have smoked Valentis (see my avatar). I thought they best matched the look of the vehicle, especially smoked ones on a black car with a tint and back wheels. In fact my entire car is black except 3 small red accents; shift knob, stock seat shoulders and brake calipers. The shorty weighted knob is functional, the calipers I have cleaned/painted/cleared yearly to prevent corrosion, so I pass the rice test (rice negative).

I agree. The corollary to the above though is that if you are buying fake/knock-off parts and repping it like it's the real thing that is automatically rice as well, even if you are taking the car on the track or you gain performance benefit. Knock-offs destroy the R&D budgets of the companies that actually design things, and it's automatically tasteless to use knockoffs on your car.

It's always interesting to me just how widely the label of 'rice' can vary between different people. There are people in big ole' Ford F450's that think any stock import car is 'rice' (the same guys that always scoff at *only* having 4 cylinders).

Well once upon a time when the term "rice burner" was coined it meant ALL Japanese built cars. The bottom of the line sedans were considered "rice" as much as any modified sports car. Since it was already a term of contempt it naturally evolved to be applied to any cars that some people don't like and lost the whole raciest angle.

If we want to stick to the old meaning then the F150 should be a corn burner, a Fiat a pasta burner and a BMW a cabbage burner.

The first time I heard the term "rice burners", was in reference to motorcycles made in Japan.

Thank you. The prelude was in great condition with a very strong engine. It was a 5speed 1992 with 1996 Jdm h22a. I was working and single, so I dumped my money into cars. It was fun to drive. I still think about how loud it was when the vtec hit. lol

The accord had cracked motor mounts. I also ended up doing a head gasket, valve job, and brakes on it. It had issues. I wished I had never bought it. But, I learned a bunch by doing the work.

Found another pic...
