Popping sound with TRD springs
2017 86. Just hit 700 miles today
I put on an Invidia N1 without any issues a week ago. Few days later, put on TRD springs with a buddy and the car was doing well. I started noticing a ping/pop noise when entering/exiting driveways, but I thought the springs were settling. A week after that, I still hear the noises. Sounds seemed to be coming from the back of the car. Reread the Toyota directions and browsed another Google search result and realized it could be because I didn't lower the car before torquing the nuts on the control arm(?). Redid the nuts while the car was on the ground (this time with blue threadlocker because I also forgot that... =| ). Didn't seem to make a difference in the popping sound. Checked it out with my dad who is an engineer with TMS, and he couldn't figure it out either. He thinks the exhaust is hitting something like the driveshaft or rear diff (he kinda distrusts aftermarket stuff). Wondering if anyone else had this issue. |

Well no, but if I did, what I would try would be to position the car on the driveway about where it makes the sound, then have someone else rock it up and down while I laid underneath to try to hear and isolate the sound.

Check your sway bar endlinks/nuts, make sure they are torqued to spec.

And yes, this is VERY common with aftermarket exhaust systems. From my Miatas to M3s *EVERY* exhaust I've installed involved some sort of repositioning to keep it from hitting the diff carrier, drive axle, rear body outlet, etc. |

I have a similar issue, though I've had my springs on for quite some time now. Whenever I enter a driveway, or go over an uneven surface, I notice creaking from the rear of my car. I'm going to recheck all the bolts whenever I install my new catback this week.

Loosened and tightened the end links on the rear sway. Still making the noises, and unfortunately, a little more frequently. Happening on semi-spirited corners, and when I backed into street parking spot (not a completely level street)
I'm wondering if I botched the job altogether. I tried pushing on the car body laterally to reproduce the sound, but I don't think I was able to load it enough. Will attempt more fixes. Thanks for the suggestions! Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

Check that all the spring end's are positioned or this could cause the spring to bind trying to compress. Also bump stops not put in properly could do this also.

Spring was up against the stop, rather than giving it distance. My fault for not understanding what 'binding' is. Love and learn. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
