Annoying reviewer in the video made it seem like more power was the only route to go. But overall somewhat informative. I'm not too hyped for it. Would rather go for a Cayman if this was a competitor to it, even though I'd be looking at $30K+ more for a used 2016 GT4 RS.

GT4 is big money, $90k + for something clean.

Dig into Cayman more, if you check out all the trim lines from say 2010 - 2015 , there are a few in there that would be great, but still $40-60k current values, 6spd manual. I know which Cayman I'd want to go for ( maybe in 3-6 years from now... if I can find a clean one, at a good price). Or go 911, 997.2 ( 2010-'12) , C2, C2S , or possibly C4S if you need the all wheel drive

The brothers would need a family resemblance even if mom's a slut pairing off with a different daddy for each model.

If they hadn't gone and made the Supra a 2-seater, I could still see a slot for a new MR-2 in the middle at $39k'ish. But now, it seems highly unlikely Toyota would do TWO 2-seaters at $40k and above.

The SFR is fun, but seems even less likely. The 86 and the Miata are already cross-compared (with the 86 falling behind the newest ND). The SFR would need to start at $16k to be competitive.

technically in many ways the Yaris GRMN was already the 3rd car but sadly it is limited and not sold in NA if that can't come over then I think it should be a true hot hatch with a boosted engine in the Corolla Hatch ^^ seems feasible

I'm not sold on the looks. For the price here in Aus, I'd look at a base Cayman (if I had the money ). But I'll reserve my judgement once I see one in person. No manual is a turn off for me too. I know autos these days are quicker etc. personal preference for me, I love a manual and it's a must for me in a sports car. I still think from a pure value equation the twins are better value.

I'd like to see a comparison between a turbo or supercharged 86/BRZ vs a Supra.

Tada said three SPORTS cars. The Yaris is not a sports car by any stretch of the imagination, regardless of how many go-fast parts you bolt onto it.

Space frame structure has something to do with it. It was more or less a rollecage. Has to be done with Smart cuz its the only way they can get a car that tiny to pass crash standards.
I think Saturn was the only other company to use that structure since they had removable dent resistant polymer body panels. There actually might have been another company utilizing that space frame structure but I don't remember which.

Without any crush zones or the bodywork to take any cash force the whole structure had to stay intact and you pretty much bounced off any obstruction like a pinball.

None of those early tiny cars were built that way.

The Honda CR-Z had back seats outside of North America.
In North America it was just a weird looking double shelf/tray

My wife had a Saturn. The "dent resistant" panels did not dent. She got hit in a parking lot one cold winter day and her whole rear quarter panel exploded into shrapnel that would make any bomb maker proud. No dents though.

Yes, the smart cars do indeed use a different structure to meet crash requirements. It will not work well with some of the low height coupes and not at all with a convertible though. It would be a challenge to keep Kei cars low and sleek and use the Tridon safety cell instead of crumple zones.

.
A lot of motorcycles are built with space frames. Audi used it in a couple if its models (the A8 and maybe the R8). The Pontiac Fiero also used it. I know there were others...googlely googlely google....

Ferrari 360, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, and the Saturn series you mention show up.

I had an SC at one point. and it was dent resistant but I lived in Florida at the time. Never tried it on a cold day....impressive.
