Official Subaru BRZ 34.3 MPG Highway (real life results)
You heard me, 34.3 MPG. I took a trip to Yakima, WA this weekend which was a 363 mile trip. Not only did I make it all the way on a single tank of gas, but I averaged 34.3 MPG. I'm thinking that I probably could have got closer to 34.5 MPG but since I passed the 1000 mile break-in just before my trip I had a little fun. My speedometer now reads 1800 miles, I definitely haven't been light on the driving.
The trip was absolute blast! The driving was so fun I wouldn't trade this car for anything. The only downside was the road noise. It got pretty loud in the vehicle, so loud in fact that it was difficult to hear the radio. I will definitely be installing some sound-dampening material in the door panels. But other than that, this car is amazing! If you are still undecided on whether or not you want to buy the car you gotta be out of your damned mind. I can assure anyone this thing will be one of the funnest cars to drive, whether it be in the city or the highway. Darien Last edited by dariendrollinger; 05-29-2012 at 04:37 PM. |

Welcome. Nice to see you can achieve some good MPG numbers in the car.

Seriously? I have no trouble hearing the radio on hwy. And switch background noise compensation to strong and you won't have to touch the volume button (although it gets upset sometimes by patches of different hwy surface, that alters the noise).

I may end up just removing the sound tube they use to pump noise into the cabin

I'll try to beat it on my next trip to MA. Usually going east across northern NY is where I see my best mileage. I got 29mpg on my spec.B which is only rated 24mpg highway.

Which transmission did you achieve those numbers on? If its an auto, thats exactly what the epa numbers suggested it would do.

were you going 80 to yakima? I havent gone past 73 mph, and I am not bothered by the road noise. Maybe when you go to higher speeds it starts to sound bad

That is awesome to hear that you weren't *****footing it either. Will be a nice change to finally get some good gas mileage on my DD!

You'll probably see another 1 or 2 mpg improvement after you have 5k to 10k miles on the car. That's very very good gas milage.
I wish 6th gear on the MT trans was geared for better gas milage. |

Car is fairly quiet road noise wise IMO. I got it up to 90ish on a long vacant off ramp yesterday on the way back from the coast.
I don't mind the intake noise either. I'm supposedly averaging 25mpg on my first tank and that's with getting under 10mpg for the first 20 miles. 75% highway, but with a lot of enthusiastic driving. edit: this is on a manual. Last edited by blu_; 05-29-2012 at 05:27 PM. |
