Got a ticket, forgot what to do :(

So i got pulled over today for driving over a divider line making an exit on the freeway, And while the chp was at it he also go my for "modified exhaust." It was bound to happen i guess :/ Now i have to bring it to a state ref to get it checked off. It says "STATE REFEREE CERTIFICATION REQUIRED - NO OFFICER SIGN-OFF." So i guess that means state ref sign off only. So my question is what do i do from here? Do i need to put my stock header, front pipe, and catback back on? And is there state ref fees? Im getting yes and no answers on that one. Lastly i have a court date on January 2017, is this where im supposed to fight it so i dont pay my ticket or fine? Or is the ticket and fine the same or different things.

Yes to everything, your court date is the last day you show proof of the corrections. everything emissions related should be back to stock.

You pay the state ref, you pay the ticket, you pay the court, everyone is happy but you.

Sorry to hear. Yeah put everything back to stock and they'll run a DB test. Afterwards pay ref, pay ticket and court.

put everything back to stock (tune as well) and get the ref to look at your car. roughly a month before your court date, call them to extend your court date and tell them that you are busy with a school final or something on that date. do that two times (which is the max extension date I believe) and then do a trial by written declaration saying how you are not guilty. then you hope that the officer doesn't respond. if he does respond and you are found guilty, appeal the case and you will need to show up in person. then you once again hope that the officer doesn't show up. if the officer shows up, then you are out of luck

All this court stuff, and appeals, and whatever sounds so complicated to me. You can take the ticket instructions quite literally. Put back to stock. Get certified by ref. Submit proof of correction and certification with fine penalty, likely by mail or delivery to the court. Isn't that the end?

I think today was one of those unlucky days. Broke the law in front of chp and they just decided to add things on. I have no one to blame but myself and they were just doing their job. I wish they would of just let me off on a warning since i have a clean record. I mean i drove around with an obnoxious exhaust around a white rich neighborhood for the past 3 years and was catless that last year so it was bound to happen.

There's a cop in the next county over that is apparently an expert on WRX/STi exhausts. My son worked at the local referee and a number of guys came in complaining about the same guy busting them. Usually it was the noise that tripped them up and once he pulled them over he started looking real close.

You broke the law and you got caught; own up to it. Fix it, get it signed off, pay the fees, and you're done. Don't modify your car if you're ignorant to the law.

i meant, did he just looked at your exhaust tip and said "okay, you're going to the ref now" or did he say "that sounds too loud, you're going to the ref"?

I'm just c urious because I have a Perrin exhaust which is one of the quietest of all the aftermarket exhausts and if a simple peek at it determines if i go to the ref or not, I'm gonna be scared lol.

Clean record as in first time getting pulled over? Do you know if you get points on your record for this? I fought a speeding ticket to avoid getting points (87mph in a 70mph zone). Lawyer was able to reduce it to 84 in a 70 because it was my first speeding ticket. I was able to avoid getting points on my record, which would have raised my insurance premium. I happily paid the $170 fine because I know I broke the law.
