General info on the 86 translated from Toyota Japan
Im unsure if this has been posted elsewhere, so I apologise if it has.
I was just having a look and translating from toyota japan and found a few bits of info some people may/may not already know.. Either way I put them here: One thing interesting to note (based on what I read in the translation), to those who have made a pre-order and put a deposit down (like myself), you will need to advise the dealership if you want the red & black interior scheme (on the GT-L), otherwise it will be all black. I made my pre-order earlier this year, and on Monday the dealer called and asked me to choose what 'Grade', base or high. I looked at the "unreleased" brochure (not for customers), and: High spec is: Leather/Alcantra inserts Three Spoke Steering wheel Sat Nav Stereo system HID Headlights LED Daytime running lights (I can only assume this means the base model does not get these) Different 17in alloys Frameless rear vision mirror Aluminium pedals and door sills Tacho with digital speed display As for price, I was told base model is $39990, with the up-spec being between $5000 and $10000 on top. This is Australian pricing. If the car ends up at $50k, im wanting my deposit back.

It's not on this page, but the gear ratios of the manual vs the automatic have been posted elsewhere. Essentially, the gear ratios of the automatic make it more like a 5 speed transmission with an extra overdrive gear. I was really excited about the automatic until I found out this fact. I believe that this will change the experience of performance-oriented driving significantly. Can anybody with more knowledge confirm or rebut this?

If the rear differential ratio is shorter then the overdrive gears will be brought back in line with the manual gearing. See if you can find manual vs auto rear diff ratio. Auto's also do not have the LSD. I also saw on the High spec brochure that the auto's have paddle shifters.

Just added transmission gear ratios.
Final drive is the same for auto/manual.

I agree with tranzformer on this one! this could bring back the entry level rwd sports car market. I see Mazda watching the success for a year or two and when they release the new Miata MX-5 vert, expect a coupe version shortly after maybe a year or two later. I also believe Nissan will catch onto this and make a mini 370Z, known as the Nissan 240SX!

I would love for this car to be a hit..
unfortunately I just do not see this happening with the way the market is. Students graduating college have student loans and cant afford a new car. Maybe kids with $ parents will want one and get one but they tend to go for the stang, camaro, or even 370z (hope im wrong on this). People with kids will mostly get it as a second car... for the record I hope I am wrong and this car does amazing and brings back the enthusiasm in all the car companies. |

There is a huge market for a traditional sports car that doesn't break the bank, even outside the Scion target market. And, at least in my circles, us older guys could care less about who's badge is on our car, we got nobody we need to impress. |

Hi mate, where did you get this info? Looking at this post suggests to me MT and AT both come with LSD.
