Catless Front Pipe VS Test Front Pipe. What's the Difference?

I was looking on ft86 speed factory for a new front pipe. I want to go the catless/test pipe route. But honestly, I can't tell what the difference is.

The test pipes do look a bit straighter and most of the catless labeled pipes appear to have a more slightly curved look. But other than that, can't tell.

Is it just a marketing thing? Or is there truly a difference? In which case if there is, what makes one different from the other?

Thanks.

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification.

So essentially it's just a marketing reason then to label it as one or the other?

Right on!

Another question if I may,

What seperate the quality between a cheaper Tanabe Front Pipe at $152 vs a more expensive one for example Motiv Concepts Test Pipe at $224?

If they are exactly the same thing, then it seems dumb to spend more on the Motiv over the Tanabe. But if there are other things to consider like one being more polished on the inside, one having better alignment, one using better materials, one being better welding, etc.

Then I want to know what what I risk by buying the Tanabe at a cheaper price over buying the more expensive front pipes.

both are very high quality, and neither will disappoint. I'm sure the welds, material, and quality difference between the two, and given what it is, are marginal.

The difference is one stinks, and one doesn't. You will find a negligible difference between both while N/A. Turbo is a different story. I say keep the cat to keep people behind you from choking and black crap forming around your bumper and exhaust tips. Also the cat helps with rasp as you upgrade the rest of the exhaust as it acts as a slight resonator.

Well both a catless front pipe and test pipe have zero cats. SO....both will stink as they are essentially just different names for a straight pipe.

For some reason I thought this was comparing a catted and a catless. Woops.

They're the same thing just as said above, and yes, they both stink, lol.

Why keep the cat? I'm doing it for making my existing greddy axel back a bit louder as I love the looks and sound, just not loud enough.

Catted will reduce potential loudness right?

ok. you need to search in forum. all the questions you asked, answers are in this forum.

answering last one here.

catted will reduce loudness but not very much! Exhaust will tribute most of loudness as well as Header (if you getting it catless later)

Overpipe, Front pipe adds sounds little but not much!

I've owned both Motiv Catless FP & Berk Catted FP and it's barely hear difference.

I would have to disagree. Having a catted front pipe is quieter than having no cat.
