Shifting into 2nd

Maybe I just suck but I cant seem to shift smoothly into second... Like ever. Is there a trick to this? Or do I just suck at driving?

Haha, I thought I was the only one too. Normally for me, it seems like the slower I go it's better. Like not just throw it down, but go slow. Also lower RPMs seems better for me. Like around 2000. I got it where about 8 out of 10 times I can get it smooth.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I feel like by the time I'm in first its already time for second so maybe I just need to shift faster? I was playing around all day trying to figure it out but I would say 2/10 I can do it smoothly.

It seems that way for me. This is my first manual, but I hate how quick I have to shift. I don't really think about it now or look at the rpm gauge. I'd say I'm in second by the time I get to 10mph or so unless I'm taking out fast. It seems like the day I got comfortable enough with a manual is the day I started doing better. Like not even thinking about it, just doing it.

I'm sure there's more technical terms with this, but how I do it seems to work.

It's gonna take at least a thousand miles until you start to really get nice shifts. Maybe longer. After the car is nice and warmed up does it still shift clunky into second? Again it's just gonna take some time to get everything nice and broken it. I felt the same way about mine for a while.

The night I picked it up from the dealer I thought the transmission was messed up somehow. But the car only had 10 miles on it when I picked it up. Now I have a little over 2000 miles and it shift just fine unless its really cold out and the car isnt warmed up.

I also found that keeping the car under 4k rpms for the first 1000 miles did not help with smooth shift. Dont worry it will get better soon I promise.

Thank you! This is my first manual car... Ive been able to drive manual for years but never actually owned one so I'm still getting used to it. Never knew you had to "break in" a car until this one either. Learning lots of new things lol.

Ya try your best not to break 4k rpm for the first 1000 miles for sure. In my opinion this is a must. You will get people on either side of the fence on this one. I tend to trust the engineers recommendation.

It might take up to 5000 miles to get completely comfortable with the clutch and shifting idiosyncrasies of this car. Also the more you think about the shift usually the worse it is. Just enjoy driving it. Proficiency will come with familiarity.

Once the gearbox warms up shifting into second gets smoother. It's not the best transmission.

I feel better knowing its not just me then. You would think 1st gear would be toughest but 2nd is the only one causing me trouble
