True, they did use Impreza chassis first, but Tada-san & other engineer decided to use all new chassis design... BUT few parts on FRS/BRZ due use Impreza parts (like rear)... but that's pretty much it. Rest all all new design.

All I know is that if Honda still made the S2K when I was looking for a BRZ I'd probably have something with an H badge now. As it stands, nothing in their lineup is really good anymore. The CRZ failed at doing either job well that it set out to do. It was an average hybrid that wasn't as sporty as the intended it to be.

so here's what's cookin' in Honda lately...

The S2000 Project is a GO!

They finally started to work on the S2000 Replacement after a 5 year break.

Its so early in the process there isn't too many rumors out there.

From Japan.....they think its going to be 60's retro look.

By this this year we should know where it will be built when Honda breaks ground on the NSX factory in Ohio.

From France.... they think that the FR Platform will come in two styles.....2 seat roadster and a 2+2 sports coupe.

And to tie this to my rumor that Honda/Mclaren was going to share a platform fell thru because Mclaren wanted to use their CF Tub and that would put it above Honda's targeted market range.

So it looks like Honda is going to do it alone.

Probably will see a Concept at the 2013 LA Auto Show.

What I see:

It will be release in 2015 to celebrate the S800's 50th birthday.

Built off the cancelled S3000 Plank(but upgraded for new crash test).

Engine choice is going to be a hard choice for Honda because they want it to live up to the
and S2000 heritage with their high redlines(10,000 and 9,000) but still meet gov smog/mpg rules.

So here is the choices Honda has now or working on that is sporty.

1)CTR 2.0 I4 turbo 300hp range 7000-8000 rpm

2) 1.5-1.6 I4 turbo 225hp range 7000-8000 rpm

3)S3000/NSX 3.0 NA Dohc V6 350hp range 9000 rpm

4)cut two cylinders off the V6 2.0 NA V4 240hp range 9000 rpm

But I think they want it priced lower than the Gen 1 S2000.

I would put my money on the 2.0L I4 turbo.

But both the S800 and the S2000 were tuned to feel motorcycle like(lightweight, open top, high rev) and Ito wants the new roadsters to feel the same way.

A NA 2.0 V4 would feel and sound perfect!

And with DI they could easy make the same horsepower of the F20 but make more torque with a better
power curve.

I wonder if people would know what the Honda V4 heritage is?

I want 350 PS 9.000 RPM V6 in a 2 seater Coupé. Sell it for 60 K. It is fine. Better than 4C and than Cayman.

Word for word this is exactly how i feel, with the massive size of the honda tuning community it was just dissapointing to see honda leave us behind, the new si is just sad, and my first new car is a scion.....times have changed, the sad thing is honda could of easily made this car, a rwd rsx-s type of deal would of been a game changer, but they would rather focus on minivans and accords.

Isn't Toyota still Toyota? They still only have 1 interesting car as they did for the past few years with the LFA but that's gone now.

I mean, Honda's got nothing at the moment but it's not like Toyota has reinvented itself.

I'm all for seeing Honda get back in the game with a new sports car. That said, I'll believe it when I see it. And if I see it and there isn't a back seat, it won't be in the plans for now.
