Looking for a truck to haul my car

Im in the market to buying a truck that can haul a rented uhaul trailer and my soon to be boosted car.

I was looking at the toyota tacoma v6 4x4 but from some shallow research it not gonna like going through a mountain/hill. Another option i had was Sequoias another shallow

the goal for the truck is to be daily and haul once a month to the track.

would like truck recommendation preferably older ones

I'm sure many will say I'm nuts, but an E70 (or even and F15) series Diesel X5 makes an excellent, and comfortable tow rig (Rated for 6K in USA, or 7,700 lbs in Europe). Those with third row seats also have rear air suspension, so built in load leveling..

As do Land Rover LR3/LR4's..

I think its an uncommon configuration but should be an absolute rocket if you can find one lol.

My 2018 V6 SR5 2WD Access cab Tacoma easily pulled my 2013 FRS on a Carson open trailer (about 5000 lbs) up the hill from Ocotillo on the 8 West. It's rated to tow 6800 lbs, the 4x4 is only rated for 6500 lbs.



I had the opportunity to borrow a newer Tundra and a 24 foot enclosed trailer a few years ago. That setup had no issues going from Denver west on the 70 over the divide with my car in the trailer.

3rd gen Tacoma should be more than capable but I'd opt for a full sized truck. I was in WY and CO a few weeks ago and was surprised to see so many Tacomas hauling campers/rvs/etc.

Depending on where you live, you might get away with a smaller rig, my area is too hilly so 1/2 ton is a minimum. Some of those lighter duty trucks may have the capacity, but the wear and tear running them to capacity takes a toll quicker. You got to keep in mind if you are taking spares or anything is going to add quite a bit. I probably bring 500+ lbs of extra stuff and fuel. Air bags are a huge help.

Probably more to do with the towing capacity of trucks or at least truck based SUV's tend to be higher than that of car based SUV's or even CUV's.

If you're pulling a car on a trailer you probably want something with like 3500lb towing capacity at minimum, as that's almost the max of many smaller SUV's.

I did a 4 hrs trek, flat lands, was fine.

I did buy a truck once,, 2004 Titan. I needed it to pull a 23' boat. I bought it used with 21K on the clock. Truck was great, new wife wanted it so I bought a Corvette, she took the Titan. That said sold it local with 156K on the clock and saw new owner not too long ago. He gave it to his son with 250K on it. Stil running strong. Tat 5.7L motor was quick and lots of power.

As a sidebar, the wife's on her second Silverado 4x4 since that Titan. She sold first on at 150K although transmission did go out once. Sencond one is doing just fine at 28K. The 5.3 motor is solid.

Thanks for sharing will look into nissian as well because there is a 45 mins downhill i have to go down on and like 1hr of uphill hauling in the future and need to consider my options
