Entirely false. You technically only need one working brake light.

Also, that intec light is a steaming pile of shit.

Nope.
You are correct that the law requires all vehicles to be EQUIPPED with a minimum of one light on the rear. It also requires that if the vehicle comes equipped with more than one light they must ALL be in place and functioning. The 3rd brake light became law in all new cars built after 1986 and therefore if so equipped it is supposed to be there and working. Only vehicles that come with only one brake light can get away with having only one brake light. Your car will not pass a safety inspection without all the brake lights.

EDIT: Correcting myself! The original equipment requirement for brake lights only applies to commercial vehicles! I have been wrong about the car requirement for 20 years. You technically do not need ANY brake lights as long as you signal by hand.

Which vehicle code is that listed in? I would imagine that would be a, "Check your local listings" type law.

Oh and good luck with insurance if you get rear-ended if you have removed any brake lights, especially if you have removed all of them and are using hand signals.

Yup, most of the HTA is only specific when it comes to commercial vehicles.

Also, I wouldn't go to a safety inspection without all my ducks in a row but, I've been driving long enough, and in enough places to know that most people either a) don't give a shit or b) just don't check every once in a while to check that everything is working.

Fwiw, the high mount brake light I bought from Classic Design Concepts is absolutely wonderful. Looks much better, especially in the rear view, takes up such a small amount of the window. My only gripe is that it's not perfectly formed to the rear window since the light is made for a mustang. But, I have 3 months off this winter, and a heat gun sitting in my garage. I'll take about an hour to form it up nicely.

Yes. It is totally based upon your local laws. In our case it wouldn't impact your insurance since there is technically no requirement to have any brake lights. As long as you had one light that met the visibility requirement and signaled with your arm you are not at fault if somebody slams into the back of you.

Remember, we have a real mix of folks here from all over the world. I'm not above trying it but I don't think the Tcoat defense would hold much water.

Not there. In fact until about an hour ago I didn't think it would work here either. I was wrong. It would be a defense based purely on our traffic laws which appear to have been written sometime around 1910 and not updated much since then.

Thanks Imrac, I did not know that. I might have been lucky as the rubber is ok at 2 years after I made the gasket, BUT soon after I had reason to detach from the paint and I cleaned the jelly off the paint and rubber at the time. I suspected the jelly might tend to dissolve the rubber as the cleanup for the silicone rubber is mineral turpentine i.e. another hydrocarbon.

What would you suggest instead of petroleum jelly? Would silicone spray be ok or vegetable (cooking) oil?

The 17 86 steering wheel is way to slippery. I hate that.

I don't like the old fashioned key. I like the fold-away keys that take up less space in your pocket. I also don't like the fact that I don't have steering wheel audio volume controls. This has probably been covered before in this thread, but I'm new to this forum and very very lazy.

@winstonscifi kinda agree with you there. Will be out jogging with keys in pocket, swinging my arms running and getting the blood pumping, I always somehow end up smash/stabbing my thumbnail right into the key in my pocket and it hurrrts so bad.

The steering wheel volume controls on the other hand I can do without. I love my plain steering wheel with lots of room for my thumbs to grip.
