Spike TV--Detroit Muscle
If you are new to autocross or asking basic set-up questions, one of the latest episodes of 'Detroit Muscle' on Spike TV did a set-up show on their project car "Ultraviolet" and how they used the weight scales and adjustments they made to improve the handling of their car.
The episode is titled "Ultraviolet Payoff" and will be available on 1/31 online. If you are a regular viewer of the show, Tommy's time improved about 5 seconds after their tweaks and adjustments to the car. |

So corner balancing? I think circle track guys still call it 'cross weights' lots of information out there and easily overlooked for road cars since most shops charge a decent amount of money as I imagine it takes three or four hours to really get it perfect the first time on a car if the install was careless, taking the wheels on and off three or four times to adjust, rolling the car to settle it etc.
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-r...djustment2.htm https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/ar...orner-weights/ https://robrobinette.com/corner_weight.htm http://iracing.wikidot.com/components:cross-weight Fun to consider, I've heard that sprint cars actually have a 'weight jacker' so the driver can alter the crossweights on track, since they're only concerned with left turns they can play with the crossweight to change weight transfer characteristics and fine tune under/oversteer. The rest of us who fiddle with right hand turns have to compromise leading us all to go straight for 50% but I bet some race teams will alter the value if they have a particular corner where a lot of time can be made or lost. If you're really diligent about your coilover install and setting the ride heights and have quality parts you can actually nail the cross weights the first time you roll it onto the scales, or at least be close enough that the difference is hundredths of a second, not five. I've seen it happen. |
