I shouldn't have said guys. I was meaning guys other than you. There is definitely a chance there is something wrong with your motor. I was just telling others to not be alarmed by the amount of coolant in the overflow changing often.

I'm going to check this weekend to see if my car is doing this as well. Good luck guys on finding a solution.

ok

1. air is less dense when hotter
when air goes into the cylinder its cooler, the metal in the combustion chamber heats the air resulting in a pressure drop.
2. coolant
i had to fill my coolant overflow twice now, after 25k miles i have yet to add a drop of coolant to my car. Seems like the car has a long break in period for misc items.
coolant also splashes out of the overflow a lot and the engine does run hot enough to evaporate it but not boil over.

my passenger window always works now
crickets... still there but no performance issues yet
idle doesn't dip anymore
ect. ect.

If you heat a gas and its volume remains the same the pressure will go up not down. The hot metal in the combustion chamber will heat the air resulting in a pressure increase, in theory. That's why hot tires have higher psi than cold. Also, I have never heard of a coolant system having a break in period but I guess its possible for the seals and gaskets and hose clamps to settle in a bit.

I just use the factory blue stuff. Just get topped off at the dealership, should be free if you are under 24,000 miles.

This probably deserves a new thread, but....

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHBlIvzgfYE&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]Scion FR-S sounds bad - YouTube[/ame]

The car was running weird on the way to work today. It sat for 9 hours while at work, then half way home I started hearing a weird ticking noise. I had been driving at a constant 65mph for about 13 miles. It almost sounded like a baseball card hitting the spokes of a bicycle wheel.

I got off the highway and came to a stop at a red light. The car began to misfire but didn't throw any CELs. The HPFP was chirping loudly without pause. For the first 22k miles I never had a chirp, it came and went once around 22,500. But its been silent since, until tonight.

The car currently has almost 27k miles. It will be going to the dealer first thing in the morning.

I would not be driving it, could be fuel issue of some type injectors possibly. Remove all your mods as well if possible namely the catch can before you go in.

Yea, only mods related to the engine at the moment are the exhaust and catch can. It sometimes sounds like the popping noise others have mentioned that comes from the direct injector seals.

The dealer opened another Techline case with Toyota. I'll be picking up a rental in the morning, and hopefully getting more information out of the dealer.

The dealer is going to replace the HPFP and have the car ready tomorrow afternoon. I know my car had the infamous crickets, but I'm trying to figure out how it would cause knocking and ticking from the engine itself (driver side cylinder bank to be exact). I'll let them replace it though, but I will not be taking the car back if its still knocking and ticking.

HPFP has been replaced, and didn't make a difference. A Toyota field engineer will be at the dealer Tuesday.
