I think we'll need more info to answer this. what with wheel and offset? I ran a 17x19 et38 with 255's and no issues on track.

I run a 17x9 +35 with 255/40/17's I have no fitment issues but I am not sure if the same could be said for a car on stock suspension.

It depends on the tire you run. Not all 255/40/17 are made equal. Wider tires like the Z2 and RS3 will rub.

OP, slightly off topic but you should check out the December issue of Grassroots Motorsports. They talk about the relationship of rim width and tire width in their lap time results. The conclusion was that:

"The optimal rim size for a tire is equal to, or slightly larger than, the tread width."

According to their testing, a 255 tire is not ideal for a 9" rim.

I'm running 255 RS3 in a 17x9+42 for track, the front can't clear with the offset so had to add 5mm spacer. the tires will rub the front sway bar when its full lock, other than that it's all good!
btw, I'm with stock suspension as well... and you ride height will look stupidly high, haha

Curious about this.. Because I used to run the same setup (255/40/17 on 17x9) on my old track car that made roughly twice the horsepower of the twins.

well with the extra power it was probably easier for you to heat up that much tire. its looking like the stock powered frs is not able to heat up much more than a 225.

Oh it can heat up a 255. It's just a matter of what your goals are. 225 generally yields faster lap times, but it's not always the case.
