And yeah, certainly--hell, I almost got a Miata RF because it's a pretty sexy car. Can say 100% I'm happy with my choice to get the BRZ though, it's so poised. |

I'd say it has very little to do with the Miata. There are tons of used ones out there for far less than new. It is the typical sports car trajectory of sales. The Miata will show the same thing over the next few years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You know why you bought an FRS/BRZ, and just need to enjoy the car for yourself. It seems very few get the point of this car, even "car guys" who think it should have more power. The simple reality is that people who crave handling and eschew gadetry and features are a tiny sliver of the car buying public. So, just motor on, and just tune out the mainstream. Yes, it would suck if they scrapped the car, and support becomes harder, but that't not under our control. Quote:
I doubt anyone is discussing discontinuing the Miata. Quote:
It seems like the market is fragmented. Many cars are modded, which is a turn off for many buyers. Some are salvage title. Some are automatics. Also, prices seem to vary. I think finding a nice deal on an unmolested well-treated FRS/BRZ still takes some work. |

So, that averages out to one car per state. Not exactly a huge glut.

I agree. Within 100 miles of me, I see about 25 FR-S for sale and 6 BRZ, just on one website. All have relatively low mileage under 40k miles. 40k miles is low miles for the PHX area lol

In America this car does need more power, not likely to change since Japan and most Europe doesn't feel the same way......
Ppl in Australia, middle east & South Africa will share the same view as ppl in US cuz how wide open the country is. |

The FA20 is already the most powerful NA 4 cylinder you can get, I doubt Toyota or Subaru are in a rush to try and give the car even more power. Instead they will probably let the platform die and move on.

current performance car development money is going into the bmw-supra & supposed lc f, we can't expect them to be working on everything all the time this generation was totally adequate and i expect gen 2 will offer another na 4 boxer while letting the bmw fill in the turbo 4 gap and im totally happy with that..the 86 should stay as the simple rwd coupe

not going to happen for a little while for toyota. toyota is still investing in their na engines, look at the newest camry. plus, i think toyota feels less pressure when competition like the newest civic si only pushes 205 hp. i get that torque figures are a bit better but even so it isn't really much faster than the fa20.. the 86 and miata will stay na for a while. if the base bmw-supra gets a turbo 4 and costs around $40 K, why would toyota care to repeat this onto the 86?

2018 Has not started yet. At least, no numbers are in yet.
For 2017, the numbers are in for Jan through June. The 2016 Scion FR-S sold 3783 cars from Jan through June last year. The 2017 Toyota 86 sold 3736 cars during the same months in 2017. These are just US sales numbers. For comparison purposes: Scion sold 7844 FR-S during the 2016 model year (from Sept 15 thru Aug 16). Toyota has sold 6090 86 for 2017 with July and August yet to be added to the tally. See this site for data: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2012/05...sales-figures/ I believe what keeps this car alive is that Toyota shares the cost of producing it with Subaru. When you add in the sales of the BRZ, which is essentially an identical car, then you get annual sales numbers which are sufficient to continue production. Subaru has sold 3006 BRZ from Jan thru Aug 2017.

Yup, joint ventures are pretty much required to make a sports car these days.
