Mounted mine this week. Got an extra set of OEM rims and bought Blizzak LM-32s. Liking the dry pavement characteristics so far.

Last night I put on Conti Extreme Contact Winters 205/50/17. This morning it was right about 32 and wet/freezing and the car was rock solid compared to yesterday where it was a chore to keep it going where I wanted it to. These tires surprised me in a bunch of ways, mostly that they are much quieter than the stockers on the highway and they are much more pleasant everywhere else too.

Yeah winter tires will always be a lot quieter because of how much softer the rubber compound is. It's great until you switch back to summer tires and suddenly your car sounds like a freight train, lol.

I'm running X-ice P205/55R16 on mine this winter. If last night was any indication, it's a good choice.

They will be far from fine, but hey it's your life right?...oh wait no, it's other people's lives that share the road with you too.

I bought new 16" wheels and Blizzaks from Tire Rack and they just arrived this week. I'm waiting until tomorrow to see if the forecast changes away from snow. I drive a lot of miles and don't want to ruin them on dry pavement for no reason. Anybody know how many miles they might be good for?

2 or 4 snow tires? ALWAYS 4.

Hello,

An earlier thread talked about using 2 or 4 snow tires. ALWAYS use 4. 2 will give you traction to get moving, but you need 4 to be able to turn and stop. With just 2, especially on ice, it's VERY dangerous. When it's very cold and black ice forms at intersections, 2 snow / ice tires = 0 control.

I've been driving in snow and ice for over 45 years, including some very nose heavy RWD cars. Please take the safety issue seriously and get 4.

Regards to all.

New set of Altimax Arctics this year on the OEM wheels. Put on Rallyarmor mudflaps too, last winter tore up the bottom edge of the car.

I ran a snowsport tire last year and they were great in fresh snow and thats about it. Any packing or ice and they were pointless. By the end of the winter they were about as good as the OEM tires, which I fearfully drove on for one day at the start of last winter...not suggested.

Greetings,

Had mine installed yesterday. Got the Costco special - 17 inch Steel Wheels and 4 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-80's. Drove home yesterday on dry pavement. The tires are nowhere close to the handling/performance of the stock Michelin Primacy's. The car felt as if I was riding on pillows!!

Coated all the body panels with Optimum Gloss Coat, hopefully it holds up to the salt. Got the RA mudflaps, and winter tires go back on in 2 weeks.

I'm running Dunlop Direzza ZII's for my winter tires. Should be ok all things considered.

You won't ruin them on dry pavement, they will have better traction than alternatives in temps below 45F.
