SCCA -The Starting Line

The Ms. and I are thinking about going to the SCCA Starting Line class for our anniversary. Do any of you have any experience with it? It is worth while? Any ProTips? They offer a helmet for an extra charge. I am assuming it would be best to get ours beforehand so we can fit and get what we want?

Thanks for any feedback.

The Evo schools are excellent, some of the best drivers and instructors in the country for sure, it sounds like they bundle the Evo school with lots of other things to get you involved, all with a big price break.

If you aren't sure if you want to do more events then just do an evo school or SCCA school.

It's a brand-new program and a terrific idea.
Here are the details for other folks: http://www.sccastartingline.com/

It includes a daylong Evo school, a helmet, local and national SCCA membership and a free entry to a local and a national event. The idea is to remove any barriers that might keep a first-time driver from coming back.

Starting Line means you'll have your own helmet, a couple of event entries and a better idea about what to do behind the wheel of a racecar than novices typically do.

My impression was that the helmet was part of the package price.

There are 3 helmet options.

SCCA Starting Line (no helmet) $325
SCCA Starting Line (open faced helmet) $395
SCCA Starting Line (close faced helmet) $495

This sounds like a good way to get me started. However, the closest event is 9hrs away.

The wife and I agree. Fortunately, Atlanta is just a couple of hours away for us.

Its a fantastic idea and knowing the people who run the program, it will be 1st class all the way. the detroit region will be hosting one at the Silverdome.

That is a fantastic deal for a SA rated helmet... $75 for open face or 175 for closed face... For reference i bought my closed face helmet in 04 at a deep discount as it was the end of the SA00 rating right before SA05 came out for $400 off saferacer.com, and that was one of the cheapest options for SA rating.

We have seen several times that it is recommended you go try on helmets to ensure proper fit and comfort. While I see that is a great price, I am concerned about buying a helmet that may not work for one or even both of us.

It is good to see the positive opinions of this service though. We are strongly considering it.

Send them an email about your helmet sizing concern, I am sure they'll work with you to get something that fits properly.
