The organizer I run with requires magnetic or vinyl numbers. I also didn't want to spend a bunch of money, so I found these:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/E-O-Magn...C815/100345609

They are magnetic covers designed to cover vents. I traced out a design and filled it in with Sharpie. It looks fine from far away, but not great up close, but it hasn't faded yet. You could try putting some sort of vinyl or nice tape on top of the magnet, which could look pretty clean too.

I haven't had one fall off yet. (have only got up to about 100 mph on track) I always make sure they are applied to a clean surface, and that they are stored flat so the corners don't pick up.

100% what I was looking to do. What organizer do you run with?

I usually run with Extreme Speed Track Events. Not always the most organized, but prices are low, which means I can do more events. They force people to buy numbers if you don't have your own, which is why I found this solution.

Had the suspicion. I'll be going to cvr this weekend with them. Haven't been to the track in years but finally ready to go back and have a half dozen prepaid days with them that expire this year. Let me know if you're going!

Cool, I will be going on Saturday. My first time at Chuckwalla, and the weather looks good, so should be a fun day. See you there!

Just wanna make sure you know of trackdecals.com. $40-$50 for two, depending on the size. Expensive for a magnet, but will look professional and probably last for years.

You can also cut out the magnet sheets for numbers so you can swap them around for different groups requiring different numbers, co-drivers, mood, blowing sound and getting a second chance, etc.

I just use vinyl now. I have lost magnets during autox and had them stolen at the track before.

on warm days the magnets were fine, on cold days they would get stiff leading them not wanting to curve/stick to the body.

I have a set from them as well. Haven't had a single issue or any surprises up to 145MPH

Yeah, I've spoken with Clay, the owner about this. I've seen a lot of magnets fly off at track speeds, get run over, and be destroyed. The magnets he uses are of greater adhesion than most others. Originally I was going to cover the leading edge with clear tape, but after talking with him, I just don't think it'll be necessary.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that bit. Good info, thanks for sharing!

I just always make sure that there are no rocks/dust by cleaning up both the magnet and car paint surface before applying so you get the best possible adhesion.
