Thanks, this confirms what I was thinking. I will have to try and use up my current tires and try and get my value out of them, then on a new set take autocrossing.

My pads and original rotors are in great shape after 65k of moderate use DD. I've done plenty of hard driving on them, only thing I've needed so far was to change the brake fluid a few times.

Wow, so if I'm reading this right, you're saying that the only way to know if your pads are fucked is to stick a new set of tyres?? Why not just take your wheels off to check the pads?

Thanks for everyone's input. I guesstimate that my brake pads should be fine. Let me change tires first. The OEM tires are more than 6 years old and still have about 6/32 left. But they have started to hawl recently, especially on highway. Pretty annoying. As of right now, my top choices are Michelin pilot sports 4s and continental dws 06. Similar price. What do you think?

@JD001 no you weasel but its a pretty easy way to tell that something isn't working right. It's how I knew my brakes had gone bad. Thanks!

Brakes are pretty universal. Even $2000 big brake kits work the same way. Stop with this overthinking on how long they would last. The only fucking way to know for sure is to either take the fucking wheel off or have a mini camera look down from the caliper window.
Better yet pay someone to do it for you while you get your tires rotated, some tire shops it's even free.

I heard you can tell how much life is left on every other car in the parking lot just by looking at it.

Twice now on our Suburban the indicators snapped off before hearing any squealing. That’s what the wife tells me anyways. Hahaha.

I drive mostly highway in my frs and I changed them out at 80k with some aftermarket pads. There was still 70% of the pad left and I hated the aftermarket feel of the pad so I put the old original pads back on the next day. Lol

I’m over 110k now and I think I may go ahead and change them out now. I threw away the aftermarket pads and bought some oem pads this time.

My stock lasted 20k miles. You probably should change yours quick!

Distance is a meaningless measure when changing brake pads. Check them. If they need to be changed then change them. If they don't then don't.
