LED High Power Combo Headlight
Hi, sorry if this been talked over before......
I am trying to upgrade my Toyota 86 with high power LED lights. I have seen some systems with resistor drivers attached to the LED lights under the bonnet. Is this really necessary to stop any errors or blinking lights or faults on the Toyota 86?? Hope I don't get any dramas....cringe what I got: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/H11-H8-H9...EAAOSwnHZYmSMB |

LEDs in the HID housing isn't going to put out anymore usable light..doesn't seem worth it to me. If you are trying to change colors, you can just buy a different HID bulb

Ok fair point, but my question is - will I get any errors or is the Toyota 86 electronics systems going to reject the lights because they are a different rating or size?
Thanks |

A note to all uses of a resistor with LED's:
A Note on Load Resistors The low power drain inherent in LED bulbs can often confuse your car into thinking the bulb is out. This will create a “bulb out warning” on your dashboard, cause “fast flashing” of your bulbs, or even just completely shut your LED bulbs off. These situations can be remedied by using load resistors. Do I Need Load Resistors? Possibly not. The primary applications that require their use are in tail lights, turn-signals, and sometimes in side-markers and license plates. These cases are also often limited to higher-end vehicles that are more likely to have "bulb-out" warning features. This is a feature also found in, but not limited to, many newer model year German made vehicles. Due to the large number of vehicle makes, years, models, and lighting applications, we are unable to provide a list of vehicles that will require load resistors. If you are unsure if your vehicle will need these for the light application in which you are interested, we recommend the following: * Check your vehicle's owner's manual. * Search online user forums. * Purchase the bulbs. If you need load resistors, you can always get them later. Further Understanding - The Difference Between Load Resistors and Decoders Load resistors are electrical components that provide electrical resistance within a circuit, thus providing "load" on the circuit. With LED lights, their low power draw on the circuit causes issues such as error messages appearing stating that the bulb is not functioning on certain cars or cause issues such as hyper-flashing (rapid blinking) of the turn signals. Load resistors create a load on the circuit which tricks the vehicle into thinking that the LED bulb is drawing the same amount of power as the factory incandescent one which gets rid of the error messages and hyper-flashing issues. The electrical circuit can be thought of as a fast moving highway and the load resistor as an accident on the freeway that causes traffic to slow down considerably; while the traffic flow is still steady, it has slowed down than any other part of the freeway at location of the accident. A Decoder is a component with an electrical capacitor inside that stores electricity and quickly releases it at a steady rate. With LED lights and their low power draw, decoders are used to mimic the way the factory incandescent bulb behaves. The storage of power within the decoder also creates a load on the circuit due to the build-up of electricity. LED decoders are primarily used with HID conversion kits and with LED daytime running lights. Decoders can be thought of as a water dam where a large portion of the water is held behind it, but it is slowly released downstream so it does not flood the upstream portion. Fans on the bulbs?! I thought I've seen it all.
Led's are kind of new to the market. You won't get anything quality for cheap(especially ebay). Your best bet is to get better hid bulbs, projectors, and/or ballast. |

The condition you posted is known as hyper flash and is only present when turn signal incandescent bulbs are replaced by LEDs which consume less energy. You shouldn't notice any difference when running LEDs in your headlamps.

I've just installed mine, the Low Beam work, but the high beams don't - I've checked each LED bulb to see if one faulty, but its hard to test when the High beam don't work. One thing I noticed was one HIGH beam was working and then it stopped. It seems the Electronics of the Toyota 86 think the wattage is too low.
I've noticed that the bulbs on the High beam on the OEM are 65 watts, but the High Beam on the LED is 36 Watts....do you think the 86 has cut the power because it thinks it blown? |
