By the way, the platform the forum is built on is not the greatest, it can't track read/unread posts and forums properly, and links to specific pages get confused in very long threads. phpBB is so much better imo... but probably no chance for migration.

[what I said above is of course not related to yesterday outage, I just needed to rant a bit]
There are 15 minute shutdowns at 9 and 1 am every day. I presume it is server backup.

The tracking in long threads only gets messed up if there are a pile of "deleted" posts. Those posts don't relay go away they just become invisible to us. They are actually still there and the Mods can see them. Since they are taking up page space that makes the thread look like it has a bunch of phantom pages. There are very long threads where nothing was deleted that are still perfectly in line..

The only thing I have ever noticed prior is the "server backup" that happens. I'm with you on believing that is what it is.

I just wanted to get some news. Visited twitter, facebook, and there was nothing. Most communities would probably at least put up a message on social media to let people know whats going on. It's not hard to go on social media or reddit (/r/ft86) and post that there's a server issue or undergoing emergency maintenance.

NO I don't feel entitled to using this site and I'm not criticizing the site's owner or leadership. I just don't have any information on what was going on.

But perhaps speaking for the vendor accounts on here that spend like $70/mo, you could say they have some stake in this site's uptime.

We did, but someone didn't read it.

Admin saw that, us mods needed long over due vacation, so he gave us one day of vacation not to get yelled at for doing our volunteer work. lol

This isn't the first the site went down. Once a great while these things happens. Just sit back, make more popcorn & refill whatever drinks you like cuz it'll be back up again.

He gave SOME Mods a day off. Some disappear for weeks/months at a time all on their own.

Unrelated, "powered by vBulletin" just means the site uses vBulletin software, but its not hosted by them. This forum is hosted on its own server, separate from vBulletin and other vBulletin boards.

LOL Ya he did just needed to twist it some more.

Pretty sure that 99% of us thought it was just us that couldn't get on. I knew it wasn't just me when I couldn't get on at home or work.

That would be entertaining! I wasn't desperate enough to go to the Facebook groups.

Sorry for the outage yesterday, folks. Simply a random server issue that's since been resolved.
