But with factory wiring fogs only come on with low beams on. They might have modified the wiring to use an on/off switch instead of the stock part... Which makes no sense to me

Yeah idk. The fog light switch is on the combo switch with the headlights on the steering column.

Fogs are on when low beams are on and the button doesn’t let them come on when lights are off or day times are on. Good guess though!

No changes on the dash when I turn it on either.

I have to hold the button for 5 seconds before it lights up red. I’ll do a walk around the car after I turn it on this morning and make sure lights come on or not.

Well, no lights turn on or off and nothing it does that I can see in general.

I turned it on, turned all light controls off and walked the outside of the car. Turned all lights on and walked the car again and nothing.

It’s a mystery button

The previous owner may have had "under car lighting" or wired in an ABS cut out switch. Who knows?
I'd suggest you get under the dash and follow the wiring.

It looks like an aftermarket switch. Normally for the 2017+ BRZs in Japan that space is equipped with the button for the vertical DRL.

Contacted the dealer and the GM thinks it is an aftermarket security system that was installed by them when the original owner purchased the car. He is going to verify/track it down for me.

Unfortunately not yet. Still a mystery button. Kept meaning to follow up with the GM again but kept forgetting.
Thanks for the reminder, I’ll follow up with him today and hopefully figure out what it does.

Ok, I heard back. It’s apparently an after market alarm system but the brand is unknown.
