My WRX crashed

I bought my BRZ about 2 years ago and sold my 2004 WRX to the neighbor kid. Below is how she sits now. He ran a red light and got t-boned. It's sitting in my garage now while we figure out what to do. There are a couple guys in town interested in fixing it. I'm not so sure once they take a closer look, but I don't really know anything about body work. If not we'll probably work out some kind of deal and I'll part it out.

It's a bummer. I bought the car new in September 2003 and drove it until May 2013. I made a lot of friends and really, truly became a car guy with that car. Originally tuned with a hex editor and then the very first car tuned with Enginuity/RomRaider.

See far worse then that come back from the dead!
It at least looks like it took the hit high enough there is no structural damage (except maybe the door frame?)

So you sold your old WRX and it was in an accident.

You're trying to fix it because?......

Pro-tip: if you're not interested in a thread, don't reply to it. You won't feel any different but you'll appear like much less of a db.

Yeah.. if I hadn't spoke up it would be at the junk yard already and he'd probably have $200 in his pocket. Now I have a chance to get my seats back.

I'm just as curious as he is.

What's the reason? We're not being douches, we're generally curious.

Does it not belong to someone else? Why is it your problem?

I sold it to the neighbor kid. I knew he'd be taking it straight to the junk yard and end up with $150 in his pocket so I told him to put it in my garage. Either he'll sell it to someone that will fix it for a bit more than that or I'll give him what the junk yard would and part it out myself.

The two of you just don't see it the way I do and no explaining is going to change that, but here goes.

This car shaped my life for 10 years. I got it while I was in the Air Force and met all of my best friends while I was away from home because of it. We spent hours and hours working on cars every week. I spent many more hours than that writing open source software to tune it. I met still other friends through racing and basically found something I was passionate about. Nothing wrong with it if you don't see a car the same way I do, but some people do. It's a sentimental thing, just like the way my head perked up every time I heard him start the engine.

I think you are still quite emotional over the loss, as we can understand. Maybe you should have waited before posting this topic on a PUBLIC forum where people are allowed to ask questions. Your situation is unique because you got the car back from the kid, which not a lot of people would have done. Calm down a little before you bite he heads off of people that have genuine questions about the situation. They may turn around and have golden advice for you.

Which leads to my next question. Why did you sell it in the first place?

I guess you don't feel the same way we do about cars we're sentimental about.

I understand that, that car was your baby. Most, if not all of us here have had cars where we felt the same way.

Assuming this is now your car. I'd make sure that the chassis is straight, since it seems that would be the first action to take. If everything is good in the undercarriage area, I'd go sourcing parts at junkyards for the doors and appropriate body parts. From there, I'd drive it as is.

If the chassis is bent? Take out the powertrain and put it in another car. Isn't there a light weight first gen Impreza that people love swapping engines into?

Edit: Reference for the lightweight Impreza swap...

I actually can feel his pain! It sucks when you have to see something you were so fond of in that shape.
Most of the cars I truly loved when to somebody far enough away that I never saw them again.
My very first new car however was bought by a guy a block away (coincidence only he bought it at auction) and although I don't have the same memories that the OP has attached to his I would be very sad to see it show up like that.

That was my question. If this car was so important to the OP, why sell it?
