If the service were provided on the plate too, at least. In the end, that's why I ended up going with the FR-S. I've already got some fairly expensive to maintain cars (including a Porsche), so getting a new car with a great warranty proved irresistible even though a used Cayman S would be terrific car for the (initial) price.

Great Chris Harris video. I hadn't seen that.

With a low torque high revving 4 cylinder engine 0-60 times are usually all over the place. It really just depends on how harsh the testers want to be on the car. In order to get a low 6 second time you probably have to drop the clutch around 5500-6000 rpm, something not for the squeamish. Engaging around 3000-4000 rpm will probably give you something in the 7 second range.

I'd imagine the fastest times in this car are achieved by enough wheel spin off the line so that when the tires hook up the engine is already past the torque dip.

0-60 times in this car are materially affected by the need to shift into 3rd to hit 60. hitting 62 will for sure require 3rd gear. raise the rev limiter a bit and you can hit 60 in two shifts and your 0-60 times fall by .5 seconds.

Interesting thoughts. Thanks guys. I guess it bugs me a little that my old Sonata Turbo could walk this car off the line. I need upgrades.

Not that I race or drive like asshat. This car certainly feels faster than it is. I love it all the same. This is by far my favorite car that I've owned.

Drove the BoxterS at the Porsche World Roadshow Event this month at Sonoma Speedway, its an amazing well balanced car just like FR-S. I was able to compared with the new 991 C4S and clearly Boxter S handles much better.

This is slightly misleading because that is not a "true" TRD 86. Because it only has larger wheels, body kit, and exhaust. No strut bars, member braces, intake, suspension, breaks, LSD or any of the other chassis reinforcement. Yes that may cost alot more money but thats the point of the 86. TRD upgrades are there to improve the car's balance, handling and feel of the car without compromising the original 86. Testing it with a half-assed TRD 86 for the european market is going to cause issues because its undermining the real potential of the car. Im sure if they tried a full package TRD 86 the results would be very different. And it could even compete with the cayman S in terms of handle, balance, and fun. NOT outright speed.

i think its super cool that they finally compared the car to the non s but i think the lack of a diff is a little bit confusing, especially if this is a comparison about feel and behavior.
Well said, fred

From an Australian perspective this comparo is laughable. The 86 is a $30-40k car, the Cayman a $100k car.

Alternatively, we just get ripped the hell off in Australia, obviously.

It's fairly laughable most places in the world, at least if you're buying new. A new Cayman here is $53k with zero options (and you can quickly escalate it above that without much trouble), while a fully loaded BRZ limited is around $28k. The point wasn't to have a fair comparison though - the point was simply to compare two very differently priced but similarly targeted (in terms of driving experience) cars.

Good comparison, both are great cars. I'm surprised that they didn't like sticky tires on the GT86. When I added mild summer tires to my FR-S, I felt they made the car noticeably sharper and increased lateral grip, without hurting the overall handling balance.
