Yes. The same tech. It’s Modesto Subaru in california. Honestly still kinda scared to drive the car. I feel like it’s a ticking time bomb. I didn’t pay anything since since it was clearly a workmanship issue. The only money I gave them was to replace my clutch since they were already pulling the engine anyway.

So I got my car back.

I’ll post exactly what they fixed/repaired but long story short the dealership said the problem was the exhaust valve clearance. They replaced the shims and that supposedly fixed my error. I’m out of town at a wedding and I did not have enough faith in the car to drive it the 300 some miles to the venue so I took my 2011 Milan instead (fast approaching 100K). I’ll try to get some (local) miles on it over the next month or two and see if anything else pops up.

This was my fear— that I’d get the car back but be nervous about it. Now I’m trying to decide if I sell it while it’s in working condition and let someone else deal with the uncertainty.

I'm not feeling too good about the warm start rattly clanky noise coming from under the hood. It could be as simple as an exhaust bolt loosened up but it sounds internal. I can almost consistently replicate it by parking with the nose slightly up rather than flat or down. I'm going to go in this morning and see if I can get the tech that did the work come out and listen to it.

Where is the oil pickup in the pan, towards the front or rear, center or off center? If it's partially blocked the motor would be starved on startup right?

Slightly towards the passenger side, just about in the middle/a little towards the back.

Just received the following from @DJ72 . I don't know the context, conditions, scope, affiliation, or intention of the information I'm relaying in my post here. I'll ask that he reply with more info-

"My 2013 FRS with just 17,000 miles was just diagnosed with engine failure. There is a class action suit that is being put together by the law firm Carlson Lynch. Every case of engine failure had to do with oil starvation, which was a result of the JO2 recall. Please share this info with the board. I can’t figure out how to post it.

Personal opinion, you'll be better off not going the class action route.

How are they trying to pin that on you?

They are saying that somehow within 40 miles after I drove it off that I did something to cause my rod bearing to go missing and another to get worn out. When I left the dealership the paper work showed no signs of problems in the oil 3 days later they found metal shavings.

Read the cons, especially the fact that "if the plaintiffs fail to win the case, they will no longer be able to file new or individual lawsuits over the same issue against the same defendant."

Also take the time to read the last 10 pages of the Discussion thread. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133306
