You really REALLY need to get out of the 20 mile or so radius you think reflects the world and the USA.

It's almost like the companies based out of Japan wanted a US headquarters that was near a major airport and port with the shortest distance to Japan...

Yep. Odd how that would be important to them.

Probably not big in the LA Prius modding community so TK has never heard of them meaning they don't actually exist.

I can almost see their headquarters from my desk. Keep checking, but no jobs I'd be interested in doing and qualified for.

If I had no interest in pursuing a career in my current field i'd be all over their composite lay up technician jobs right now.

Waiting patiently for an additive manufacturing related job to pop up at multimatic...

Where the USA "headquarters" is doesn't mean that is where the only or even the most of the sales are. You have a very small world view.
It's also easy to have more enthusiasts when you have year-round great weather. Florida also has a major enthusiast scene due to their nice warm weather all year.

Let's also look at why a foreign automotive company looking to open operations in the US would choose to be located in CA or somewhere in the SW over somewhere else in the US. Once again, it has great weather and allows for year round testing. Additionally, as your listed many of them are Japanese companies. CA has a large Japanese population. People, generally speaking, tend to go locations where their population, and likely family, is located.

Furthermore, there are significantly more direct flights to and from Asian countries out of Los Angeles and San Francisco than anywhere else in the country - this is major for international business...Time is Money. For example, Washington Dulles has only 2 daily flights to Tokyo Narita which is FAR from Tokyo, while LAX has at least 5 daily flights to Tokyo Narita and at least 3 daily flights to Tokyo Haneda (the more desirable Tokyo airport). That's not even taking into consideration that you can fly to other Japanese major cities like Osaka from LAX that you can't from the east coast. You'd be quite surprised to learn how many business decisions are made due to accessibility to an airport and that airport's global reach. Prime Example - Amazon HQ2 moving to Crystal City, VA which touches DCA, which thanks to all our wonderful congressmen and women, you can pretty much get to any big or small town airport in the US.

(EDIT: I didn't get to Page 3 where someone already mentioned airports....but glad someone picked up on that!!)

Funny you use Japanese brands as a standard for coilovers. While I like JDM parts, off-the-shelf dampers from Japanese companies are near the bottom of my wishlist - just above the obviously Chinese/Taiwanese units. What are usually regarded as the "best" dampers in the world have usually come from everywhere else besides Asia and California: Europe (Ohlins, Koni, AST/Moton, JRZ, Bilstein, KW) and North America (Penske, Multimatic). Unless you're a JDM-hype, hard-parking stance boi, dampers are only as good as the ability to have them valved for a specific application, the serviceability, and their quality (depending on fitness for use) - regardless of where they come from.

Travel more, please.
