Sold my series 2, just picked up two crimpers for the wiring and gonna learn the art of a MilSpec wire tuck. Should be fun.

I'm waiting for both my tuner and the time to come closer to my swap before I decide. My tuner is awesome and has pointed me in the right direction the entire time. But it'll be soon.

It's huge, heavy, complex, difficult to work on, and totally overkill for, well, just about everything ever. You can do a 'murikan road race dogbox like a jerico or a g-force for damn near the same price.
Someone is butt hurt about the price of V160s. lol Honestly though, your opinions scream pure bias but hey you are entitled to your own opinion on here right?

My friend has a 2J S2000 and he is running the V160 pushing over 800hp and has zero issues with his transmission. Keep in mind, this guy drives the shit out of this car and racing it on both the track and street, several times a week. I can understand starting with the R154 if you are on a budget but the ultimate/end-goal would be either the V160 or a TH400. The R154s aren't bulletproof and I have seen several MK3 grenade theirs at the track. Also if the V160s were such "shitty" transmissions, why has the price skyrocketed from an affordable $2,000 in 2010 to now, close to $6,000!!! Excluding the Cressida from this equation, guys performing the 2JZ swap in their BMW, FRS/BRZ, S2K, Mustang, all go with the V160 over the R154. If it is an all out drag car, then they would go with a power-glide/TH400/dogbox...

V160 pricing?:

Nice... 1JZ will be legit and definitely more cost effective... and from what @Drift&Drag tells me the Xcessive mounts are pretty nice as he's running them himself. Not sure what your goals are with your 1j setup, but hit me up if you need/want any parts from my aristo 2j.

thanks for the offer @OmarGC , I'm not sure if there's any aristo 2j parts I need. I appreciate it, though.

and that's good to hear @Drift&Drag , I'm excited to see how they did the vvti mounts

hey dudes, turns out the solstice trans is just about the perfect length for this swap

I mean obviously the V160 getrag or a powerglide are the only transmissions that anyone should run but if you're interested in a R154ish box, looks like this is going to work out great.

edit: that's with the trans / engine ever so slightly not quite all the way in. once I remove the trans tunnel brace and can fit the trans all the way in and slide the engine up against the firewall, I'll probably cut the tunnel back a tiny bit for clearance. but still, beats the shit out of having an R154 extended 8"

I'm currently looking to use a getrag 420g from the 540i/m3 to mate to the 2jz. Apparently they can be mated with an adapter. Still doing my research but if it works out I'd have a getrag transmission for $800 vs the $5000 v160. I don't think the gears are too much different and the 420g is rated for about the same amount of torque. Both are 6 speeds.

There's a TQ rating for the v160? Haha

In all seriousness, that'd be an awesome alternative.

$6K US would get you a brand new V160: http://www.jzx100.com/forum/topic/11...#axzz3HnfKCiCI

Brand new R154's are closer to $3.5K

The only thing to keep in mind when doing a V160 swap is ensuring you get a matching rear diff ratio so the gears aren't useless.
