I normally park in a heated garage. The one time I did not it was -14 F . When I started the car it made a very loud pop under the hood and another in the muffler. This was the only time this happened ..so my guess it's cold related and not the seals.
condensation somewhere is the fuel delivery would be my guess.

Those temps can make your car do some weird shit until it warms up! And the noises it makes with the rapid cooling down after shut off will scare the crap out of anybody not used to them.

So it even pops when car already warms up and driving? if that the case, i think you should take it to the dealer, it still has warranty i assume...

Mine sits in a heated garage at 52*F. It still pops on cold start-up. Did it the day after I drove it home from the dealership, and does it now with 5k miles...

mine does this on very cold starts if the car has been sitting over night outside in the cold since day one. Few pops at start up , but gone after 60 seconds, and never when driving.
Never had a car do this before...is it a boxer thing?? |

Going to bring this thread up because I've got something that I've been doing that's been working for me on these cold winter days
I would have posted this earlier because I used to lurk the website with no account, but I just recently signed up. Anyways if you want this to stop, what's worked for me is raising the revs about 300-500 for maybe 5-10 seconds upon startup. For the most part you won't get any pops. |

I have heard similar cold start up misfires not loud sounding but a slight rumble. Honestly, I am going with the cat warm up camp. This happens once or twice and then stops after warm up. Not worried about it.

my car is doing this severely when cold. I will get loud popping / misfire / unresponsive throttle but the CEL will only flash when it happens then go away entirely. as soon as it's a little warmer the problem goes away and the car is perfect.
losing my mind trying to diagnose this

Mine just started doing it. Just hit 20 000 miles on mine. Upon start is coughs a little, sits at like 1500 rpm for a few seconds then drops back down to 1000 rpm and stays there. No codes have shown up. It hasnt been that cold out recently and it didnt do it when it was a lot colder out...glad to know a lot of people have the same issue

My car has done this from day one on cold mornings. I was worried at first but 2 years later no issues so I am not concerned. I do have a friend with a 2015 WRX that is normally parked in the garage but he stayed at his girlfriends place on a cold night and said his car did the same thing. So it could just be a boxer thing.
