new to forum and new to car

just picked up my frs last week.
I have to say the visual design of the shell still has me looking at the car from different angles. Time and time again.
I guess I am a little biased towards this car. But is there a story in the design of this car?
Its shape is very thought out and refined in my mind!
Story? is there one?

Then you'll never be 'one of us'. I bought it specifically for that reason. Spiritual successor to the 86 I already own.

Why not? The idea was to make a rwd car that was light, inexpensive and sporty, something Toyota had not done since the 84-87 Corolla.

Spiritual successor, yes but it also owes its lineage to the Toyota 800, 2000GT, MR2 series and even Celica/Supra. All it really has in common with the Corolla is RWD, affordable and 86 mm bore and stroke. It isn't even actually made by Toyota. The whole AE86 thing was more ingenious marketing than anything else. Still, it is one of the best cars produced in the last 10 years IMO.

i bought this car because I grew up in the 80s. I had a 1988 honda prelude with 4 wheel steering. Plus I bought a new 1990 toyota celica gts.
Couldnt afford it and traded it off for a 1986 gts celica. Both were red.
When I seen this car it reminded me of my 90 celica gts.
So all in all I am loving this car so far.
funny thing is I paid less for this car than I did for my 1990 celica gts. That car cost me $26000 25 years ago in manitoba........ go figure that one..lol

I find myself looking at it all the time. I'm lucky I'm in Florida so I'm really enjoying my 3 week old ride. I can't believe how many people have stopped me to ask who makes that car and this car replaced a C6.
