My crickets went away for most of this week. Back now. Don't know why they went away. Filled up from the same location. Nothing different about my routine that I can remember.

Perhaps.

But it can be useful for new arrivals, and it can provide updates should anything change.

Is your view that Scion-Toyota has no intention of resolving this issue beyond what they have done to date?

Not to be pessimistic, but I don't think they have much in the way of plans other than insulation, given that Subaru already has decided that this is a normal operating noise.

I'm sorta thinking this way, too.

Have read this entire thread and seeing the same questions asked repeatedly...here's a summary.

  • The Crickets can only be heard at idle, and are hypothesized to be created by fuel cavitation in the HPFP (Champion sourced) with most E10 gas; which fits with Toyota stating it was air bubbles in fuel. There are other threads that 3D model the HPFP and it's design if you want to learn more.
  • These elements contribute to the Crickets coming out.
  1. E10 fuel (most gas)
  2. Different gas blends (treatments & lubricants or lack of)
  3. High ambient air temps
  4. Less than 1/2 tank gas (no idea why this one, but I've noticed it too)
  • Everyone will experience Crickets given the right combinations above. It's a design flaw all FT86's share. There are no fixes, only temporary solutions (adding Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant or Low/No Ash 2 Stroke Oil to each tank of gas).
  • Toyota/Subaru likely have given up on "fixing" this problem, and the best anyone (new owners) can hope for is the mid-life refresh having a different DI system.

What is the recommended mixture when adding the TCW3 to a full tank? 2 oz? 3? Can someone that actually has done it and made the crickets go away state WHICH product they used?

Mine came back at full volume after 200 miles on the latest fuel pump. I haven't had chirps for two full gas tanks of Chevron 93/10 and several 100 degree days so far with the Lucas upper cylinder cleaner. I'm going to keep using it. Car sounds amazing with no chirps!

How much upper cylinder cleaner are you using per TANK?

I use 2.5oz, haven't tried 2oz like Matt. But like him no crickets and engine sounds less clunky. Obviously the DI clicking doesn't go away, as that's normal.

Ever since I have been filling shell 91 pump, crickets have been gone - even with hard driving or AC blasting
