This repair can actually be done in the vehicle, strange they would have pulled the engine.

Oil is coming from the seam between camshaft housing and cylinder head.
I've seen a few cam carrier leaks. It does require removing the engine. If they went to the trouble of pulling the engine the first time, they probably should have gone ahead and resealed this. At least it's being taken care under warranty for you.

They explained that the engine had to be pulled in order to remove the old liquid gasket properly before resealing.

Anyway, now they have to reseal basically all liquid gasket seams of the engine once more.

I got my camplate resealed and two days later the smell came back. I was driving my car pretty hard to test it. Drove my car back got it resealed again. I've been driving it now for around 1500km and no smell.. Hopefully it's worked this time.

Verdict was leaking camshaft housing. Parts just came in, taking her back soon for work.

I sure hope no leaks ever develop outside of warranty. Ah well, about 4.5 years left on the powertrain.

I have the oil smell since the last oil change (~1 month ago). When I went for a drive with my car club, some other drivers mentioned black smoke coming from the tail-pipe. A couple of days ago I checked oil and found that the dealer had overfilled by almost a 1/2 quart. I removed the excess oil and the oil burning smell has decreased significantly but is not totally gone.

FR-S is at the dealer today looking at the oil leak. Oil is dripping onto the garage floor.

I just found a small leak at the back/bottom of my drivers side camshaft cover.

Taking it in to the dealership on Monday. Were your leaks in a similar location??

Mine has exact same problem (09xx 2013 BRZ). Didn't develop until very recently - car has 36.5K miles. Will be taking it to the dealer.

I noticed a couple oil spots in my driveway yesterday and today. Also started noticing a burning oil smell. I am taking the car to the dealer today to see what it is. Hopefully nothing major.

I took my header off over Thanksgiving and found oil in the gasket. It came from the oil seep where many of you have (Driver side on the timing chain cover right behind the cam sensors)

This is a fire hazard
