How are 2014 Porsches getting away with Clear Corners from Factory?

I've noticed on the road (US) that the new porsches all have clear corners with no amber markers in their headlights. Is this something new?

Even with amber lights, it's federal law to have amber reflectors.

They could be using them as parking lights, in which case they can get away with white/clear. It happened with the older BMW E46 as well, with some cars coming from the factory with clear corners.

I think the E46's had the amber reflector in their headlights instead though

Nope. No amber reflector in their headlights.

Edit: I might be wrong. I'm probably wrong according to my friends.

No they have amber ones, they just didn't take pictures of USA spec ones for the website. At least all the ones I've seen?

Well on the roads here in Hawaii I've seen at least 4-5 new porsches all of them with clear corners with amber bulbs.

Here's a link of a Porsche in Hawaii right from the dealership. http://www.porscheofhawaii.com/new/P...5f48363425.htm\

AFAIK Cops here will cite clear corners.

They've been doing that for a while - my 987.1 Cayman has clear corners as well (though there's a tiny bit of amber right at the back).

EDIT: I wonder if it's paint color dependent? I can find several pics of 987.1 Caymans with amber corners, but mine definitely had clears from the factory.

My guess is that the photos are all from European spec cars and most of the Porsche dealers in US are swapping out the US spec corners to the Euro spec ones when they get new 911s in. A lot of dealers throw them in for free on new Porsches. I know the Euro clear reflectors were the first thing I ordered for my Porsche Cayman R.

I really with the safety laws between countries would adopt some type of uniformity so the car manufacturers didn't have to make 2 different cars.

We would get:
A: cooler cars in the USA
B: Possibly lower cost vehicles since the manufacturer doesn't have to create and test two difference versions of the same vehicle for different markets. (UK vs USA)

I hate how the U.S. market McLaren P1 has to have Amber corners instead of the clear ones

Everyone else:

U.S.:

Ruins the look of the headlights a bit IMO
