Feels like a real clutch now, I've had two other manual cars in my life and it feels great. No effect on clutch wear or anything else, the pedal doesn't sag either.

That is what I wanted to hear. Clutch engagement point isn't my biggest complaint, and this is my first manual, so the "softness" didn't bother me much, but I ended up driving another manual car that had a "soft" clutch and realized just exactly how soft ours really was. I didn't expect sag (as the spring helps us depress the pedal, not help keep it up), but didn't know if it had any negative affect.

I'm tempted to pull that helper spring out as well, but my only fear is the fact that it seems to be irreversible should you find you prefer the super soft clutch and/or bring the car in for warranty for some transmission/clutch related issue.

I liked my sti clutch, but always thought it was a little too stiff. Would prefer the resistance somewhere between what the brz is from the factory and what the sti is from the factory. How stiff does it make the clutch?

I would think a valve spring compressor would do the trick. The clutch is stiff, not like a stage II, but traditional feel.

Ever drive a car without the drive-by-wire crap? May predate your time, but my old '91 Toyota pickup had a throttle cable, physically wired to the throttle body; the idle was controlled by a screw holding in the position of the wire. I'd have to say it was just a bit stiffer than that

I guess if it was anything like my old dd...

I'd be happy with that. I'll give this a try when I get home! I'll take some pics as well and post up a tutorial, although I'm guessing it sounds really simple.

Is the spring removal reverse-able? That is the other question.

Likely, I've never used a valve spring compressor that small, but I think it'd work. I mean, how else did Subaru do it when they assembled the car?

True. You'd be surprised how many parts are put on once, replace when putting something back together. Just hoping the spring isn't one of them.

Been dying to do this mod but I'm gonna wait until after I take my car to the dealership. My clutch has been making a squeaking noise and feels crunchy the bottom few inches before it's pressed down all the way. I'm sure if I do this mod then the dealership will give me some BS about how this mod caused the clutch issues.
Anyways, can't wait to do this! Glad everyone is having great results so far!

Hi guys please read this thread - this clutch adjustment gave a few of us a loud "clicking" noise when pushing in the clutch, and again on release. Sounds like it is on the inside of the car. Toyota denies that is an issue, but there are a couple of videos showing the loud and obnoxious click that was created, in that thread.

IMO, with the consequences I saw, the adjustment definitely was not worth it. Didn't see any real improvement in clutch feel and put it back at OEM due to preference

I didn't get any such bad reaction to the adjustment. I didn't make too aggressive an adjustment, though.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

I did modify the technique discussed however, Subaru didn't intend for you to spin the metal rod to adjust the clutch.

I took off the safety clip, squeezed the plastic safety clip on the pin and took out the pin then pulled the rod down and spun the long "u" shaped bit down, took two tries to get it at a point I liked but it was much easier that trying to spin the rod. Also the gear indicator and cruise worked without adjustment.
any pictures of the cap/ clip in question?

Basically pull the clip out of the pin and then squeeze the white cap of the pin and pull it out.
