Was it the first time your car got wet?

Well it finally happened, on the 49th day of ownership and my car gets washed at least once a week and it's been raining quite a bit. Figured it would go away after awhile but I guess not. Only happened to the L side tail.

This morning @ 11:00

Afternoon @ 13:30

Much later @19:00

Passenger tail light here. Multiple washes, usually weekly at the very least, no issues. Drove in the first real rain we have gotten since I picked it up at the end of May and I saw condensation. I've got an appointment next week to look at the chirping, condensation and shift knob buzz.

I'm noticing it's mainly the passenger side tail light that is having issues.

I wonder if there is one guy on the Subaru line we have to blame! :P

For those of you finding the condensation, are you checking if your tail-lamps were fully seated and if there were any cracks in the housing back side per below? Haven't heard much confirmation that this is in fact the issue.

There seems to have been some tail-lamp assembly not fully seated in the body bezel and screwed into place, causing tiny crack in the housing back side on rare cases.

To inspect, just loosen the tail-lamp housing nuts, and see if there are any cracks. If not just screw it back in, and your car should be perfectly fine.

In the meantime, it will not affect the performance of the tail lamps in any way, and if the problem develops in rare cases afterwards, it is under warranty. This should not be a common issue they say, and is covered under normal warranty.

Again, you MUST love Toyota for getting right up and quick to fix any issues.

Is this considered condensation?

Before the car wash, tail light is clear.
During the car wash, I noticed the passenger side tail light had some fog inside. About 1/2" by 2" in area size.
By the time I was done washing the car, the fog cleared up.
It never really rained since I got the car 6 weeks ago, so I don't know how rain will do. I see some people on this thread saying the car wash was ok, but rain did the condensation.
If anything, mine seems minor that I would wait until my first service to get it fixed (if it has condensation problem).

yes that would be called condensation, but it's not necesarily considered a 'defect' according to Scion.

p. 291 of the owner's manual states:

Quote:
Contact your Scion dealer for more information in the following situations.
Temporary condensation build-up on the inside of the headlight lens does
not indicate a malfunction.

if i were you i'd still bring it in to see if Scion is willing to take care of this issue as the problem might get worse over time (and by that i mean, after your warranty has ended).

Awesome, I go outside today and see that my driver side tail light has condensation and a puddle in it. About a week after I got the car, the passenger side did it but it went away. Now that the driver side had a puddle, Im going to push real hard for a replacement.

Had passenger side tail light condensation, took it to my dealer and they immediately ordered a new one for warranty.

So after a torrential downpour here in FL my tail lights ran into this same issue. I took it to Subaru today and they pulled up this service bulletin that was released in June. They were nice enough to email it to me so I could share it with you guys. Needless to say they ordered me replacement tail lights under warranty.

If you have this condensation problem don't just wait for it to go away. Chances are, because of this issue, the condensation will eventually come back. I'd suggest taking it to your local dealership asap. They took good pictures of the condensation for proof.

Here are some pics of my tail lights. Both of mine had condensation, not only the passenger side.
