I can remember paying under 50 cents a gallon in the early 70s. Then the "shortage" came around and that was the end of that.

That is normal for us here. It is down to just under $5 right now though.

It looks impressive until you factor in an average annual salary of about $3500.
So at 15 cents that burger would be almost 10% of an hours pay!

I'm not sure but I think it was a Marlboro ad I saw at a cinema. It was so cool! I've spent a lot of time looking for it to no avail.

A cool macho guy is sitting on a sofa under the wing of an old 4 prop bomber. He has a Labrador beside him (I think). He's wearing aviators of course. He checks the time, gets up and goes into the cockpit of the plane. Goes the through the start up procedure (you see the huge propellers stating to turn, gathering speed). He then moves the plane forward about 2 meters so the shadow of the wing is over the sofa. Goes out, sits on the sofa and lights up a cigarette!! 'Twas beautiful.

(This is all through the haze of long ago. I don't think I've made this up but I have no idea on specifics.)

Your memory may have added some engines but I do recall a series of ads based around a dude with a plane in the late 70s, early 80s. I know there were at least two tv commercials with him and his plane.
