OP, have you spoken to a reputable local audio installer? He may be able to get your install debugged for a reasonable fee.

I'd recommend my audio guy to you, but that's a bit long of a drive .

I try and do what I can on the electrical side with my cars, but since I live in an apartment complex, the room I've got to work on my car is a bit limited in space. So, for the stuff I can't do (or to double check my work when that's going to be exposed anyway), I use my local guy. Ensures the work is done right, at least in my case.

I have the factory HU and no, it doesn't do that. I can start the car, drive forward out of my parking space, get to work, shift into reverse, and the cam will come on.

Unless the BRZ is different.

Damn I wish I had this piece of information before I started...Oh well

So I'll re-wire to tap into reverse light instead I guess...

So my next question...I'll be repairing the amp wire (dark green) so what's a good way to test if it is fully functional or not? In other words...How do I know I have successfully repaired the dark green wire back to stock?

And you tapped into the reverse bulb wire?

Did you use David(ae64) and/or beat sonic's harness?

Aside from the initial install, I haven't done anything to troubleshoot what's going on...I simply did the install - saw it wasn't working the way I had planned, and came to this forum (because it was 11pm and that's past my bedtime haha)
When I go back to the wiring tonight, hopefully I'll try a few things and it'll work. If not - I may take up this suggestion

Thanks!

I tapped into the reverse harness yes, but that's shit for a trigger wire. You could just tap the fuse on the drivers side.

Just a heads up, that reverse wire is only powerful enough to drive the camera and the reverse lights. It doesn't have enough juice to trigger the head unit (at least in my experience).

Nope, I just repinned the stock harness. You honestly don't even need a harness, it's 3 wires. Trigger, RCA in, RCA Ground.

Great to know. Look like the following link from David @ AE64 is misleading then. I used his harness.

Ok for anyone interested I hooked it up tonight successfully!

For the AVIC Z150BH, you need the following wires hooked up to make your reverse camera function properly:

- Red power wire to dark green 12v Amp wire in the trunk
- Black GND wire to a metal bolt (I used one in driver side trunk)
- Yellow RCA (on camera) to brown RCA (on HU) labelled "reverse camera in"
Here is what tripped me up:
- **Red "reverse signal anode input" wire goes to NOTHING
- Lengthen the purple/white wire coming from the accessory connector on HU and attach it to the light pink reverse wire (located driver side wheel-well PIN5)

DONE

Thank-you!!

I too have been struggling to figure this out. I found a link showing the pink wire:

just put the red to reverse pink, and put the black wire to a ground then connect output to where it is suppose to be in the headunit.

"You have to start the car in reverse in order for the camera to work" THIS DOES NOT APPLY IN ANY CASE

For the connection in the footwell 30 pin connector that is 5 down and a pink wire... do I replace this wire with the new wire that is the "reverse trigger wire" that routes to my headunit? Or I do I "t-tap"/splice into this wire?
