If you think that all that is happening is a bit of ignition retard then there is no point discussing.

what else happens then, when all you do is altering the <0.2 engine load column of the ignition timing base table?

sure a bit of fuel of those particular cycles goes to the exhaust, but that happens also when the stock tune commands a retard in ignition timings

i'm all hears but apparently you do not want to discuss it

A backfire is definitely going to have a pop and a lot of bangs...

How could you tell that?
I am a fuckboi cause i want to help a guy having innocuous pops in his car for fun?
i tuned more than 37 ft86s in Italy and no one broke his car in the last 2 years and half, and half of them track them or make drift, and everyone of them has some kind of oops availability, either with a touch in the Ecutek app, or VSC button

A catless header with no muffler. :o I can't imagine how that would be tolerable to drive.

As long as OP understands it'll likely destroy/foul O2 sensors and run the risk of burning up a valve have at er

Or washing down the cylinder walls with gas so there's no oil left to lubricate the rings.

As for backfires... no one really wants a backfire on purpose.

Running insanely rich with only DI washes the cylinder, not some stupidly light brefly ignition retard

I put in manual mode and then it gives me complete control of each gear. I usually let the rev hang at 4K but no pops, I get burbles but none actual pops.

How do you make your car like it has a poor tune, make it pop and bang.

Why are people so stupid?

Same reason marketing trumps good engineering.

I might be a bit late to this post, but I also had this issue, turns out the ECU was not switching to the B map for a while after flashing. just had to go for a bit of a drive then turn the ignition off for 15 mins or so and it was sorted.
Its something to do with it taking a while for the ECU to relearn its AVCS parameters or something.
FYI you can get a nicer pop going of you set the overrun fuel injector pulse width to 2ms or so
