Best double-din on currently on the market?

I'm looking shopping around for what is the best "bang for your buck" double-din. My budget is around $400-600 depending on the options. Looking mostly at units with just DVD but navigation would be a plus, whether built in or uses my iPhones navigation. One thing that bugs me is input lag so that should factored in.

I was researching this exact model. Are you installing it yourself? If I go with Pioneer this would probably be the model. Although I noticed in some reviews the input lag looks very bad

Yes, I will be installing it myself. I am also installing sub/amp as well and I will be fully documenting every step of the way in photo... maybe video... to help out others who might want to swap too.

Sorry about the size of the picture.

http://www.kenwood.ca/Car_Entertainm...vers/DNX6990HD

Costs a little more, ($700-800) But an damn fine headunit.
Without having steering wheel controls, the volume knob is a big selling point for me.

Tech specs look very promising on this one, but do you know if you can change the interface so it looks a little less like a 3rd grader designed it?

This is the problem with just about all aftermarket radios I ever look at. They all seem to be stuck in the 80's boombox era.

I looked at that one and decided that the extra was for the nav unit... and I'm not interested in that when I have multiple net connected devices that do the same thing... the Pioneer has an add-on for nav but I opted to not buy it.

I honestly hope that unit responds better than the previous generation!! The GPS was painfully slow. If you missed a turn, you would have driven 1 block at 45mph before it could recalculate!!!

I have to apologize... In a rush to prep for a car show yesterday I did the install myself without documenting it. My head unit/amp/subs only came in Friday around 4 or 5 pm so I only had the 1 day to get it all done.

The pics of the install are below...

Oh... the car show... 1st Place for Best Scion.

One update on installing this head unit... I am still using the factory speakers with this set up by simply using the toyota wiring harness...

I must say that the factory speakers sound louder and clearer and higher volumes with the exception of heavy bass. The highs and mids sound much better and don't distort at higher volume.

The near plan is still to replace all factory speakers and the factory amp.

So you didn't need any wiring adapter to install this? Did you need a mounting bracket adapter?

Thanks!
