Hey guys,

I did the install today on my 2014 BRZ ltd and there are two things I think worth mentioning:
1. Power - It is the pin left to the grey line of the original 16 pin when you pulled it out from HU. And I didn't connect the ground but it works fine.

2. Wire from trunk to body - Make sure you use some lubrication there. That will make it much easier

Today I tackled the install of the Toyota/Scion/Subaru FIT integrated Back Up Camera System

I purchased it a couple of days ago on ebay and it conveniently arrived on my day off.

Everything is pretty straightforward as described in this thread.

I found this video to be particularly helpful when it came to wiring it up. Specifically where to get the reverse trigger signal and power for the camera:

EDIT: it was pointed out by @SVXdc that the video contains some incorrect information in regards to grounding the camera. While mine worked fine it was pointed out that the ground needs to be connected to Pin 15 rather than Pin 6 as shown in the video. SVXdx has posted a link to the pin-out diagram in post number #73 just below this one.

Works good and the whole install took about an hour.

Error! "Len Solt" (YouTube guy) connected his camera's black ground lead to the HU's parking brake input pin (#6). Doh!

It still works because the camera also gets ground via the RCA plug/jack.

See pin-out of the 16-pin socket and more info here.

If you run the camera's ground lead to the back of the HU, you'll want to use pin #15, which is below the pin you use for camera power (#7). But if your camera's ground lead is short and ends near the camera (as is the case on most eBay cameras), you can just connect the camera's ground lead to a good chassis ground point somewhere near the camera at the back of the car -- no need to extend that to the HU.

Thanks for taking the time to point out my error. I will move that ground wire when I'm in there next time. I'd have never known as the camera works fine.

I have been running my rear view camera for a month or so plus. so far so good!
i could still use a modification to hack the angle a bit, but hey it still gets the job done so im just gonna leave it be.
I could use a camera on my front lip though. jeez this car is low profile

As I described in another thread, the camera I installed has two pairs of wires near the camera end of the harness. One pair works as a jumper to enable/disable the guidelines displayed on the screen. The other pair inverts the audio signal 180 to allow upright or upside down mounting of the camera.

Agreed. Anyone come up with a good solution for a front mount camera?

Now that I know how the triggers work it would be possible to splice a second camera in on a switch, it would take someone smarter than me though to make it happen. The hurdles are that there has to be power to the camera when the car is started or the head unit ignores it, and you would need to still trigger it off pin 2. You,d have to throw a diode to keep it from back feeding into the reverse lights or something.... im just thinking out loud. Easiest solution is to back in to the parking spot...or a urethane lip...

this is what i used when i did my front camera.. i hid the trigger button for the front cam in the dummy switch in the shift console as per another DIY. Reverse works as normal, only the front cam need be triggered manually when parking.
Probably one of the most functional and useful of my mods.. No more hitting parking blocks or parking 3ft away from curbs!

That is awesome for the price of a cheap camera and 25$ for the switch box id be in on that. Do you have a link to the DIY for the switch and where did you put the front camera?

check out this DIY below, its awesome!
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92390

My front cam in one of the holes from the OEM licence plate surround, pointed down, wires run behind the crash beam, up behind headlights and back through firewall via one of the oem passthroughs by the steering rod area then back to switchbox, mounted behind h/u.

Front camera mounted in grill -

Stealth Switch -

Front camera view guidlines turned off, sorry nothing for reference besides pavement... curbs and parking blocks show up very clear against the edges of the front lip. I wanted a curb cam, not a front facing traffic cam.

Image of reverse cam view when shifted into reverse, with guidlines, neighbor's van is approx 20-25 ft behind -

Thats awesome. Ive already done the rear camera. The rear i purchased was the oem fit camera and id rather not order another one of those due to the cost.

Which camera did you use for the front. The reason i ask is i see that on your front view you have the lines disabled and i know each camera has different ways of doing that. I love the button mod, very stealthy.

Im going to get that switch box ordered, thats just too easy to not do it.

Thanks @Danklvr

Edit, i notice the link for the switchbox says 60 days to ship, did it really take that long?

Man, I'm kinda upset the stock camera that comes with the 16 doesn't have the lines. Is it possible to add the lines to the stock camera or do I have to get those eBay kit?

For those with the eBay kit, how accurate is the line? On my Corolla that thing was spot on.
