Ah, I gotcha. FWIW I hammered on my car from the day I got it. A "hard break in" as they call it. 17k miles in and it's been problem-free.

Cool Buy the Twins for the Win

Hi @Jen. Buy the FR-S and don't look back. Best decision you can make. Go with manual trans...even if it takes a bit for you to get used to, the payoff and enjoyment will be greater! A true sports car SHOULD be MT.

According to the thread, the product became available in early February.

Rob told me the current orders are in process of being filled and to contact him again in mid-May. I'm hopeful that he'll have them available again then.

I vote 86, and if you're unhappy with one they have on the lot because of mileage etc then just order one or wait for a new one to come in. They should be able to work with other dealers in the area to find a car to match your options/color etc if they want to work with you on it. A few thousand dollars at 1.9% APR will be minimal on your monthly payment, plus you mention paying it off early anyways. Sure it's only 200bhp but it is only 2700lbs and, 30-35mpg on the freeway, and if you truly enjoy driving it, will leave you smiling from ear to ear every day.

I too came form an LX/LY (Charger,300,Magnum/Challenger), a Procharged '07 Charger SRT8 (497whp SAE). At 4200lbs it's very hard for a car to "hide" its heft when driving in a spirited manner. I never felt confident or connected to the car on windy roads, wide sticky tires, brembos and all. Because the 86's are so light, and such a responsive chassis, they communicate a lot of the sense or feeling of driving to the driver. It was a design goal for the engineers, "Put the sport back in a sports car".

I would urge against the better deal, the V6 Camaro, because it will always be big and heavy (3800+lbs), and probably get worse gas mileage, almongst not being as fun to drive. It wont be much different than your Challenger R/T at the end of the day, besides being slower. Yes GM has done great things with the platform, but the V6 is designed to make up a large majority of sales to people who cannot afford the SS/ZL1/Z28 or who want something more cost effective.

That said, as you stated horsepower isn't everything. The FT-86 does feel faster because of how low it is, but even with that it's not slow. Want to make this car insane, turbo or supercharge it. Here are some stock times for comparison...

2013 Scion FR-S
0-60 6.2 sec

2011 Chevrolet Camaro
0-60 6.1 sec

2011 Dodge Challenger

2011 Ford Mustang
0-60 6.2 sec

2011 Hyundai Genesis
0-60 5.8 sec

For the record...that is the V6 Challenger/Mustang/Camaro

Good luck...

BTW earlier...I was defensive because we get a lot of trolls here who come on and say, "XXXX is way better than a BRZ/FR-S and I can smoke you!"

Often these trolls pick a "Girl" name to get more leeway...

Also...these trolls tend do a lotta "bench racing" and make false claims about their cars (which they probably do not actually have). I generally enjoy shooting those trolls down by asking questions about how they attained their HP etc etc.

Sorry for hitting you with a stray heat round.

I enjoyed my SRT8 Challenger, but TBH the BRZ was a more rewarding experience to drive.

I think you realize what you are getting into and you will be pleased with your purchase.

I'll bite.
The FRS/BRZ maybe a good choice for a longer commute do to the MPG advantage. Someone with a good foot should average 32MPG. That alone is a huge selling point.

But if all you are going to do is rack up miles and be a hooligan on the weekend, save the 4k and find a used low mileage one. Plenty of them, and if you get sick of it after a year you won't get bent over as much.

I went to go buy a 2013 FRS. I had not taken a test drive, so I told them I wanted to drive it first.
The Good- I had no trouble with the clutch at all, just drove it. Great car. Loads of fun, especially if you drive it hard and shift at like 4500.

The Bad- TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK

I noticed that the car wasn't idling right. When we got back, we lifted the hood and it got worse the longer it idled. It sounded like lifter tick. How a car with 167 miles could have lifter tick is beyond me. Ugh.

And that's how it goes.

I posted some pictures of my Challenger, the bikes, and myself. I'm real. Also not a troll

Anyone know of a good deal on a 2013 pm me.

I wonder what was wrong with it. I should have videotaped it. You can't have lifter tick this early. That's what it sounded like though.

Maybe it's the high pressure fuel pump that you were hearing; it's noisy, and that's normal. In fact, with a little luck, it'll start "chirping" after a few thousand miles. Ticking and chirping.

Some people have their fuel pumps replaced. Repeatedly, even. Some people's cars burn to the ground from sloppy fuel pump replacements.

Not me, not mine. Fuel pump chirping is a FEATURE, not a problem.
