Escort Passport 9500IX, I like it over anything because it learns false alarms (like the Walgreens on the corner) and that limits the amount of false alarms a LOT so you are not driving and muting it all the time, but actually pay attention whenever it pops up.

This was on sale on Amazon.com this weekend for like $350. My dad ended up picking one up because his previous radar detector started giving him issues. Looks like a solid radar detector

I agree with you. I use the 9500ci with the laser shifters in my FR-S and the 9500ix in my Camry. Both are great systems! They use a lot of laser in Minnesota and Nebraska though the the 9500ci was a bonus for me

Been using the Max for about a month now - Found it new without box for $370. I had a 8500 x50 for 2 years before the max and the range is far superior to the 8500. Besides the nicer screen I wasn't impressed by most of the other features. Learning false alarms is nice, and so far the redlight/speed camera alerts haven't helped me out yet but it definitely can if I'm in an area I don't know too well.

For the most benefits you would need to purchase escort live with the bluetooth smartcord live which i haven't decided if i'm gonna do yet

If I didn't get a deal on it, I probably would have gone with a redline (I decided to upgrade since my 8500 failed me twice in 2 days when i first got my frs - one was a laser and the other was an instant on radar where i was the only car in the area)

I had a Valentine One, but returned it to try out the Passport Max because of the continued false alarms I received with the V1. It also does not seem to be alerting me on Red Light Cameras and I have GPS enabled, and I already updated the detector using Escort Tools.

I am starting to regret my decision, the signal strength on the Valentine One is far more superior compared to the Passport Max. I'd rather put up with false alarms on the V1 than risk getting a ticket with the Passport Max.

V1 user for about 17 years now.
Bought a unit when I moved from Europe to the US before I had a car.
(Radar detectors are illegal there...) and can get you in deep trouble if they catch you with one.
The newer V1's can be used up with a Bluetooth adapter and when teamed up with the unofficial app: YaV1,
You will have GPS, lockout's and a lot more.
It will make the V1 a much quieter unit and still have the same range.

It's a shame that YaV1 is not available for iOS.

I have one of these, bought new in 1987, it was the state of the art. Back in the day it saved me a few times, let me know I got a ticket a couple of others (instant on, well concealed, targeting out of state vehicles only, grrrrrr). Been sitting in a drawer for a few years. I think I'll throw it on the dash tomorrow and see if it still works. These things are exceedingly rugged (military rugged), one never knows. Not certain it covers all of the bands that could be in use today.

Edit: Heh, it still works. I've changed my commute recently and the new route has more potential for trouble so I think it's time to start considering electronic counter measures again.

Been running a 9500ix for a few months after my 8500 was stolen from the house. Just hardwired it tonight.

As long as the cop is pointing it at least one car in front of you for about half a mile, you are alerted. I haven't been even close to getting caught in about 30K miles with my detector and it has saved me a LOT of times. That includes a trap they sometimes setup when I'm coming out of work where the cop actually uses a gun on/off on every car, but I'm always alerted before it is pointed directly at me.
What's your experience with interstate driving and cops that are hiding off to the left or right of you and the laser isn't coming straight on but from the side?

Last summer I drove to Atlanta from Miami, and the detector saved my ass about 6 times and three of them where from the side. Still got a warning WAY before getting to any of them.

That is when the cop is using K, X, Ka bands. From what I've read (and anyone correct me if wrong), if the cop is using laser and you get the radar alert on it (meaning the laser gun is pointing directly at you), forget it because it is extremely accurate and you are more than likely busted. Two of those six cops used lasers, I got the signal on the radar detector but was not stopped, followed or anything.

If you're driving in VA at all with it, you'll want to go bel/escort over the v1, unless you feel like getting a ticket.
