I think the article said EJ20.

It could be simply driver is better. In no way does this demonstrate that the $25-27k variant we get our peasant hands on is superior to the R8.

Nonetheless, good video.

I knew that but it's basically an FA20(under the name EJ20) with high tech primo parts on it.

Its really hard to tell what is fair in the GT300 rules (but then again, they just give the winners some ballast before the next race). Did you guys see the list of cars that run in the same class as the BRZ?

BMW Z4 GT3
McLaren MP4-12C GT3
Nissan GT-R GT3
Ferrari 458 GT3
Porsche 911 GT3 R
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3
Honda CR-Z
Toyota Prius
Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3
Gallardo GT3
Callaway Corvette Z06R GT3

Thats a lot of de-tuning to get that 300 HP figure! GT300 has really changed over the years, I remember it being dominated by Japanese cars and there would be an oddball Porsche in there somewhere. I think teams are realizing its cheaper to detune an exotic then build up a race car starting with a bare roof.

Oh btw, the BRZ got 5th place in the actual race, a SLS won.

sorry for being a party pooper, but the R8 is way closer to the GT3 class (which in term to it's closer but still not close to the actual car) than the BRZ is closer to the GT3 class (tube frame and all that), so it's lighter and more purposeful of being a race car.

see the R8 can actually doing this good with only 300 hp and with such a heavy body to compete with a full on BRZ tube frame race car that design to run 300 hps, i guess it's fair....

I found more of the BRZ vs R8 video but with a cockpit camera and a Porsche taking a coffee break in the middle of the road.

This needs to compete in Euro/US GT Racing.

Also, I wonder if the Continental Sports Car Series would let a N/A BRZ/FRS run? It would challenge the Miatas.

I'm guessing the R8 is way closer to it's street platform than the BRZ.

I'm not too familiar with DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) but I guess the BRZ GT300 falls under that look?

Race cars built to class rules; they might look similar but will never compete outside their class in mainstream Motorsport.

people please calm down!!!! it's not a stock brz vs a stock r8. the brz has no chance against it in stock form. the engine isnt even the same as the brz.
