Why only a 13? The car is fundamentally unchanged to 17 and then the changes are minimal. It isn't some special rare thing where the first MY makes it more valuable.

To me it would be that they want the first year the car has come out. I'm thinking way down the road here when someone is looking for the car as a collectors item they just store in the garage. I would expect they want the first production year it was available for that reason, since they don't change much between the years the 2013 model will likely be the most sought after, hence more valuable.

Don't get me wrong when I'm like in my 60's I'm going to kick myself that I just didn't buy one at any year and throw it in a humidity/temperature controlled storage, so I would have one without paying a crazy amount or taking the time to find a decent one.

To have any value I at all it would have to never have been driven. At all. It would also have to have some sort of fame attached to it that would make it desirable. The reason many old cars are desirable now are that the people that wanted one back when it was new could not afford it so now they have the cash and buy them as classics. These cars are cheap enough that people that want them now just buy them now. Parking one away and maintaining it for 40 years is just not cost effective for it to be worth a few thousand (inflated)dollars more. This is not a supercar that will gain massive value it is a cheap throw away coupe. Will there be value down the road? Maybe but not near enough to warrant investing capital in a car you can not drive for decades.
Anybody looking for one in the distant future is not going to care if it is the first model year. In fact, in light of current events you may not be able to give a 13 away in the future.

The most common question when selling a '13 will be, "so, did you replace the engine?"

At this rate, potential buyers may know this. Was the recall done? If so, and the car is running/driving...the engine was replaced.

Which throws the wrench into the theory that the 13s will be more valuable since they were first. The most valuable of collector cars have the original engine. It doesn't matter why the original engine was changed it just matters that it was.
These cars may have some slight value after a long, long time but they will never, ever see collector car status. It just isn't there.

If I am wrong and in the far future they are selling for hundreds of thousands of 2059 Inter Galactic Megabucks then people are welcome to come and pee on my grave and say "I told you so".

Odds are that before they can gain any value they will be restricted to a few scattered driver operated driving parks where they will not interfere with the self driving vehicle infrastructure.

The Captain doesn't care about border security, he'll just beam in.

Mint 240Z are now $25,000 cars. Fox body Mustangs can go for $15k. These were a cheap poor man's sports car when they came out. A mint E30 went from $5k to $15k in the last 5 years.

There are teenagers who are driving $600 '97 Civics who would love to drive a $28,000 FRS.

While these are not a supercar, it is ALREADY near impossible to find a low mileage bone stock 6-speed that has not been trashed.

I'm not saying they will be worth much in the future, but I am saying they will be very hard to find.
