I'm going to play at Red Star Raceway on Friday 26th.

I've probably already got a passenger, so this isn't a ride-with invite, but if you want to come play with your car, you'll find me there.

I'll be on road tyres and quite slow, so anyone who'd like a piece of my ass on track, this will be your best opportunity. LOL
My PB anti-clockwise (slow direction) on road tyres is 2m24.6
For sure, I'll do a bit better than that on Friday

I'm staying over in the chalets on Friday night, then doing the Michelin Cup Dyno event on Saturday - https://www.facebook.com/events/1859321594101020/

I'm about 94% sure I'll be able to meet you there around 2pm. Will let you know again on Thursday for final update.

This started a bit suddenly and got going really fast, the last 2 weeks just flew by and I nearly forgot to enter the Michelin event. Luckily I woke up at the last minute and registered.

I will be joining you at Redstar tomorrow, I am afraid I must decline your offer to have some of your ass, as I already have my own to worry about. I doubt very much if I could keep up with yours

Looking forward to seeing you and hopefully Noodlefish there

What a great day!

It was a real pleasure to drive with you Fish Eagle, I learned a lot as always. And always good to meet a new face. Welcome noodlefish, I hope you enjoy your 86 experience as much as I have.

It reminded me that a big part of the joy my 86 has given me is the people I have met.

But this is the Michelin Cup thread and I had a great time today at the dyno event. Meeting even more nice people and finding out that my car does in fact produce the correct amount of power

Looking at the results of Michelin Cup 2018 Event #1 – Dyno, which can be found here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...27&single=true

I have to say again that you don’t need a lot of horsepower to do well in a time attack event, or to have a lot of fun.
You’ll see from the dyno results, that I came 79th out of 110 on the WKW and NM score.
Well, that’s quite far down the list...

But, here’s my results for time attack track events over the past few years, against many of the same competitors:
2015 Red Star – 9th overall
2016 Zwartkops – 12th overall
2016 Red Star – 7th overall
2017 Zwartkops – 10th overall (with a passenger)
2017 Red Star – 27th overall (in my Z4 which has 30kw less than my 86, is 200kg heavier, and is on road tyres)

And I’m prepared to bet that in 2018 at Zwartkops and Red Star, I'll be in the top 10 again.

And you don’t need a supercharger either.
Last year @FT_86_SM_GP achieved 14th overall at Zwartkops in a non-boosted car!!

So, before you throw a lot of money at your car to make it “faster”,
rather throw money at investing in seat time to make YOU faster.

Well said Fish Eagle!

The driver makes more difference than power and tyres etc. And Fish Eagle can pedal fast, so I listen to him

I would agree that learning to drive the stock 200hp properly before you upgrade anything (apart from brakes for temperature) because more power and grip won't really help you yet. And as I am learning the 200hp in the 86 is much faster than 200hp in most other cars...

The stock car is very good at teaching you. You can learn to carry momentum, trail brake, drive around the understeer, all the good stuff!

Also its pretty rewarding passing cars that cost triple with double the power, in a stock little old Toyota

The best part about upgrading the driver over the car is that the upgrade sticks no matter what car you drive in the future. Not many upgrades fit an 86 and a Ferrari F40

PS: I came 91st at the dyno day. I believe out of about 110 entrants, so right near the bottom. Which is just fine by me

Oh wow, I'm so excited.

After making the effort and cost to drive to Jhb to dyno my car, I now find out that the goalposts have changed, and the scoring system is... very weird to say the least.

So I achieved an exciting zero points to kick off my series this year.
Exactly the same as those who never bothered to pitch up.

If I sound a bit sarcastic then you're right - I am sarcastic.
I should have stayed at home...

Sorry to hear,
I am also excited and scored NIL points, being at the bottom of my class :-)
But I guess it makes it sweeter when you beat the rest of them and come out first or top 3 in your class at events?, like you did in the last 2 seasons :-)

On the good side, you will have an advantage to those who didnt attend the dyno event,
(Ie. possible 8 additional points at the end of the season - if you attend every event).

Competitors get a point for each event attended, if they attend all events.

Also good news is that the Dyno Day points will be reassessed and addressed for the MC2019 season,

The dyno day was awesome IMO, ran smoothly, awesome atmosphere, awesome people and awesome seeing soo many beauifully looking and sounding 86's.... which gave me severe 86 FOMO.

Looking forward to the season ahead!

Yes, the dyno event went very well.
Organisation was slick, and the venue and their staff were excellent.
Just the brains trust of MC is letting the side down...

There's a fundamental rule in business and sport, and that is - you cannot change the goalposts or the rules after the game has started.
QED, not negotiable - we all know that. OK, most of us know that.
It's a guaranteed way of p*ssing people off.

The excuse that classes must be the same number of competitors is illogical and unnecessary, and in this case isn't an excuse because the classes certainly didn't end up the same size.

I was going to participate in more events this year, but I've lost interest.
I've entered and paid for the drag event, but I doubt if I'll go.
I'll go back to what I've done in previous years - just do few time attack events. Whatever...

Totally with you on this... it’s kinda silly (& unnecessary - it ain’t F1!)
But probably still good to see how well your drag races go if you’ve already entered and paid

It seems very luck of the draw as to whether you happen to be in the top or bottom of your class, unless you go and add or remove power. And weight is not factored in at all. There is a massive difference between a 120 kw Caterham and a 100kw family car.

So, I think that these are "for fun" events and they should offer incentive to pitch up otherwise, well it's less fun. And certainly don't change the way things work midway... Personally, I do hope that you come anyway Fish Eagle!

Having said all that, just for fun, I hooked my tablet. Unleashed all my 111kw and tried some 1/4 miles. Uuuurgh! It is more fun than parking. But less fun than almost anything else in an 86.

I don't know the best way to pull away. I got my best time by dropping the clutch pretty hard at 3600-3800rpm. Fair amount of wheelspin, but without those rpms it just bogs down too much. After 4 runs, I decided that's enough of that until the 18th.

On 225/45/17 Bridgestone RE002s I did a best of 0-100 in 7.7 and 1/4 mile in 14.6 secs.

What I am sure of is that drag racing is NOT for me at all... (Although I am curious to see if I'll be faster on the day?)
