I know I'm late to the party, but Dave Staba at DD Performance Research out in Sealy, TX is also very good.

Hi @CSG_Mike,

I'll soon go to track with my car in sporadic events, 4-8 days a year, with 1-2 20 minutes sessions each. My car is stock, excluding Sparco 17 wheels and Yokohama Neova AD08R (as per your suggestion this spring). I'll maybe add lowering springs in some months. I've bought Whiteline Camber Bolts and I'll cross my finger to find a good shop to install them and align the car. Today I've also red another discussion mentioning to buy also 14mm lower struts bolts, but, since I'm planning to track the car soon in September and October, I doubt I'll get them here in EU soon; I'll buy them for the next alignment on next track season. My father should probably have a cheap Chinese pyrometer.

My question is: what is the suggested setup for me, using my car as DD (even if only 10-12k km a year)? I suppose I have to add camber to save my not-cheap tires shoulders, but how much will be good also for DD?

Another question I don't read usually: how frequently am I supposed to align the car again, since I'm also daily driving it?

Maximize the camber; bolts will not be able to get you so much camber that it will significantly change your tire wear.

Align any time your steering wheel is not straight. Ideally, have your alignment checked if possible, anytime you spin our or go flying off track sideways. Keep an eye on yuor tire wear, and if you notice unusual wear, have your alignment checked.

The owner has been in the US running a few Global Time Attack events as well.

What size are you after? Also check the compound if you do source them, they come in three different options.

Another option is the Pirelli Trofeo R's.
I've been running 245-40-17s with the R888s on 17x9 rims. Really enjoying them for sure.

^^ Have you been monitoring lap times and/or lateral G's on them over time? From what I've seen R888's fall off fast after just a few days on them. Long before the tread is even half gone.

I have 9 full days on them and are only seeing them start to fall of slightly now. I'm NA so I'm only at about 190whp with it.

I haven't seen much fall off on the R888s. Had them on a 2000lbs car with 430HP for 9+ days with no really significant fall off.

They are also my street tires, probably put about 3500 street miles on them this summer as well.

In my experience, the r888 is pretty peaky, and heat cycle out quickly compared to the RA1/NT01/RC1.

The R888's real benefit is the sheer number of sizes it is available in.

I find them peaky within sessions in that they can be greatly affected by over heating and/or improper inflation. They are in my experience very sensitive tires and I won't use them any more. I also prefer the RA1/NT01 which are much much more resilient/stable/predictable.

The R888's sensitivity makes them a love/hate tire and I think is the reason you get such a wide range of responses from people

Any seat mounting solution providing a sub strap bar? How do you mount your 5/6 pt harness?

Interestingly I switched over from RA1s to the R888s because I found that due to the larger voids in the RA1s I ended up ripping them up much faster than the R888s.

I guess driving style, car setup etc play a big role on these tires with such varying results.

Hi @CSG Mike, this is quite the thread you have going here.

I have an 86 with no power mods, but I'm considering upgrading to a BBK. My local track is hard on brakes and I have the budget right now, so I figured I might as well.

I have the option of going with semi-float or full-float discs. As far as I'm concerned, both are probably more than ample performance-wise. I just need to deal with the heat, not necessarily stopping power or braking feel. Therefore my main concern is long-term running costs and street performance because the car is my daily.

So far I am considering going with semi-float, because in my mind less moving parts = less maintenance. Would you agree that this is a good idea? The larger discs are pretty much guaranteed to sort out my heat issues, so I don't need many other benefits from a floating assembly. What's your opinion?
