2013 Hennessey VR1200 makes the CTS-V seem slow [w/video]

Quote:
There are a handful of vehicles on this blue Earth that can warp one's perception of speed. The Cadillac CTS-V holds a seat at that table of chieftains thanks to its brawny supercharged V8 engine. Now it looks as if the cats at Hennessey have decided to wring even more power from black sheep of the Crest's stable.

The 2013 VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe ditches the stock block and blower for a 7.0-liter lump and a pair of turbos. With innards like forged pistons, connecting rods and a forged crankshaft, the engine is good for 1,226 horsepower and 1,109 pound-feet of torque at the flywheel. The company says the finished product is basically a de-tuned version of the same beating heart that powers the Venom GT.

Hennessey also swapped the stock brakes for 15.1-inch carbon ceramic rotors front and rear pressed by eight-piston clamps at the bow and six-piston calipers on the stern. A slew of carbon fiber widebody pieces outside and a magnetic ride suspension tuned by none other than John Heinricy himself are just a few of the other upgrades.

What's the point of such a machine? Hennessey wants the VR1200 to be able to do 200 miles per hour in the standing mile. With a top speed of 242 mph, the two-door easily eclipses the stock CTS-V's 180 mph v-max. Check out the car's dyno run in the video below, and head over to Hennessey for more information. If you like what you see, you better get on the phone. The company only plans to build 12 examples.

Hennessey Unleashes 1,226-HP Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

Quote:
Hennessey Performance, the Texan tuner capable of bolting a pair of turbochargers to virtually anything on four wheels, has come out with a new performance upgrade for the Cadillac CTS-V. This time the challenge for Hennessey founder John Hennessey and his team at the Lonestar Motorsports Park was to create a powerplant with Veyron-beating performance, and that they certainly have accomplished with the new VR1200 package.

A quick look at this dyno video reveals Hennessey’s VR1200 package for the CTS-V delivers an incredible 1,066 horsepower to the rear wheels. According to Hennessey, that equates to an insane 1,226 horsepower and 1,109 pound-feet of torque at the flywheel.

To achieve these figures, Hennessey does away with the CTS-V’s quite capable supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 and installs a new 7.0-liter unit. To this, a pair of turbochargers is bolted on, along with forged internals, high-flow cylinder heads and injectors, a custom camshaft, a new fuel system, dual wastegates, a full stainless steel exhaust system, new intakes, a custom engine management system and electronic boost controller.

The vehicle is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, though an automatic can be fitted after undergoing a special performance build and torque converter upgrade.

The end result, according to Hennessey’s own estimates, is a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, a quarter mile ET of 10.2 seconds at 141 mph, and a top speed of 242 mph.

To go with the drivetrain mods, Hennessey also upgrades the brakes with new Brembos, adding huge 15.1-inch carbon ceramic discs with eight-piston calipers up front, and the same size discs but with six-piston calipers in the rear. These reside within 20-inch wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

The suspension also gets worked over, with new sway bars added front and rear, and the standard Magnetic Ride Control tuned by John Heinricy.

The final touch is the addition of a full carbon package, which adds a new front splitter, widened fenders, an integrated diffuser and a vented hood. Inside, owners can select to have most of the surfaces re-trimmed in carbon fiber and Alcantara.

Only 12 of these beasts will be built, each with their own serial-numbered dash and engine plaques.

I would not give a cent to that goddamned crook.

Also, people need to get off of Hennessey's nuts for building LSx cars. He's doing all of this with off the shelf parts, minus those flared quarterpanels which, IMHO, ruin the lines of the car. I'd rather tub the car. Sure, he took the time to R&D the turbo kit, but that's really nothing special. A mandrel bender, some welding skill, and some poor customer's donor car.

Want to make over 1000rwhp out of an LS motor? (This is not an exhaustive list)

RHS LS Race Block, GM Racing LSx Block, Warhawk Block with big cubes
380+ CFM Heads from any number of sources
9:1 Compression
Forged everything on the bottom end.
High lift, long duration, aggressive ramp rate, wide LSA cam (and the strongest springs ever)
Sheetmetal intake or FAST 102.
Nick Williams 102mm Throttle Body
Boost
Meth

Warm up that credit card.

This car looks like a Pontiac Aztek from the rear.

That, my friends, is enough to ruin the car for me.
