I talked to the dog last week and got confirmation

I know there is a word for when something becomes so popular that the idea of it becomes a target of self-parody and satire.

Like, these rumors have persisted for years and it became so impossible to outdue the previous one that it has collapsed in on itself.

It started with:

It'll cost $20K!
to
It's finally getting a turbo!
to
It's actually getting an E-AWD system!
to
It's going to weigh less, have a turbo, be AWD, and will be cheaper!
to
It's switching to FWD and may not be a manual and could have a Corolla powertrain while also being a pseudo crossover while also being a joint venture with Mazda while being a biscuit with grape jelly that you can't eat.

I mean, holy shit. How did we reach this point?

Once upon a time there was this thing called automotive journalism. Since print space was expensive and limited they actually investigated rumours and sources before printing articles. If they were wrong to often then people stopped buying their magazines and they went broke.

Then along came the internet where any crackpot with a theory can make it sound like fact.

The online magazines now make their money by selling advertising which is based on the number of clicks they get. The more articles they can pump out the more clicks they get and the more money they make. If they are wrong with the info nobody cares since they only look at the latest story and forget what the same site said before. Remember when one site was running the story that the 86/BRZ were done and another where it would get a turbo in 16 both at the same time? These sites no longer provide information. They provide entertainment and people think it is fact. The same people probably think that The Fast and Furious is an instructional video on how to drive and car modification!

Wouldn't it be lighter because the four holes are bigger and holes don't weigh nutten?

Question from Bubba

Lol!!
Tcoat, will you hand assemble the 2JZ going into my new 86?!! You can put one of those cool “Hand Built by” plaques on it. Heck you can even throw a maple leaf logo on there.

All kidding aside, I will be extremely happy if the twins survive for a 2nd generation. If they do, it’s pretty much a love letter from Toyota and Subaru to us, because they probably don’t make much profit on them.

Believable even if just made in their office by somebody with what appears to be a 15 year old graphics program.

A great power plant for an SUV or larger sedan but would be lackluster in a sports car for any purpose other than burnouts. Sure it is higher horsepower and torque but look beyond those numbers and see when they come into play.

What makes you think the FA24 would be a lower revving engine than the FA20? It has a better bore stroke ratio than the FA20 does. There would be more surface area for larger valves with the larger bore which would also help. With the right heads and valve train this thing could very easily spin faster than the FA20. I just hope they did some serious reconfiguring of the oil galleries to bias more flow to the 2/3 rod journals.

Question from Bubba

Don’t forget the block isn’t a solid chunk of aluminum. The sleeves are surrounded by water jackets. A larger bore wouldn’t remove material it would actually add mass due to the larger diameter of the sleeves. I’m guessing we are only talking pounds in the single digits though.

I was talking "as built now". It IS a lower revving engine. Or more accurately the power is delivered at lower revs. No doubt it could be designed to rev faster for an NA application but we are back to what would be the cost to emissions and mileage?
