On paper yes there are "gains".
In real life, those gains are negligible.

When the old Bridgehampton course was still alive, I ran the short chute between four and five in fourth gear in my N/A 944 Porsche. I put a K&N in and ran out of revs, having to upshift on the same straight. I'm convinced they add notable performance, but I've decided against oiled filters now.
