Petition to allow classic cars to be imported & driven after 15years of being manufac
Allow Classic Cars from around the world to be imported and driven in the US 15 years after date of manufacture.
We, the people of the USA, would like NTSB and the EPA to grant full waivers of standards of safety, mpg, etc. to allow classic cars from markets outside of North America to be imported, driven, and shown on the streets and highways of America. Current regulations allow for full waivers from 25 years after the date of manufacture. This period is too long and allows too many cars to be lost. Please amend the regulations to allow full waivers for any non-commercial passenger vehicles to be imported without restrictions from 15 years after date of manufacture. Please visit the link and sign it. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pet...cture/vPxfFY6s Takes 2mins to do! Spread the word to other car forums! |

This won't work.
Why? Because you have to create an account to sign the petition and that sir, i do not like and many others will not like. If i didn't have to create an account then id be all in... Though i will spread the word. |

Great idea. Also not a fan of creating yet another account.

Whitehouse.gov petitions are a cute way for people to feel like they're participating in government. However, the petition you're trying to pass involves the purview of three distinct administrative agencies. The IRS, the EPA, and the NHTSA. Administrative agencies are created by Congress with major officers appointed the Executive. There is a reason agencies are referred to as the "fourth branch", with heavy criticism that it does not fall into the system of checks and balances of the three branches you should all be familiar with from high school civics. You can petition the Executive all you want. There is little he can do unilaterally to push through legislative change that he, nor the general public, cares little about.

Signed for the hell of it but the govt can't even figure out this damn "fiscal cliff" I don't think they care if we want cars from other countries. The reason the 25 year ban exists is because mercedes bitched about grey market imports causing profit loss.
